A trucker told me that if he is stopped for breaking a traffic law in his personal car, he is toast. Cops show no mercy to CDL holders. Is this true?
I am asking this because I have received multiple breaks from cops as an ordinary driver. I behave politely and they forgive me.

How about don't get stopped, then you don't have to worry about it.

I received a verbal warning in my personal vehicle for 10 mph over. The officer asked if I was using my CDL for current employment and when I said yes he said he'd give me a break. I was happy to keep my clean record. I wouldn't count on always being so lucky though!

I have had many breaks give me JUST because I held a CDL. In both my Truck and in my POV!

Such a wonderful officer. I was once caught doing 74 on 60. I opened all 4 windows, turned the interior lights on, turned the engine off, and put my hands on the streering wheel. State trooper asked me where I was coming from. I told him I had long tiring shift driving passengers around. I had done 32 trips that day, 32 passengers. He said if nothing shows up on my record then he would give me a break which he did.

No it's not true. When I was a LEO I only tied up 1 out of hundreds of CDL holders that I encountered, and that was because he was driving intoxicated. No excuse for that. Most officers/troopers are the same way. The days of police vs truck drivers vanished in the 80's

If someone runs into you as a truck driver, the cops report it to the federal website as a crash and it cancels your insurance or makes it go up even if the truck driver was not at fault.
