Does Calex haul any freight in the western PA ( Pittsburgh ) region ? Do you happen to know if they recruit from that area, and where their nearest terminal is located ? Thanks in advance.

Well I just delivered into North East PA by Erie a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if they hire in the Pittsburgh area or not. I'll be in the yard Monday and will find out for you. We have just our main terminal in Pittston PA. Right now I'm in Roanoke VA heading to Pittston for a Monday delivery.

Johnboy, I'm excited because I have my driving test this Sunday (tomorrow) here in Orlando, near my home, and then Monday Mort scheduled my physical/drug screen. I hope to be coming to Pittston verrry soon to join Calex. If there is a referral fee the company offers to drivers, you'll be receiving one soon. It was you that sold this quiet and efficient company not only to me, but I see many others here now who are interested as well. Mort has nothing but nice things to say about you, by the way.

Actually, he told me too that Calex wasn't hiring from FL at the moment, but I mentioned that I'd be willing to stay out 3-4 weeks at a time (who can be picky in this economy?), and that seemed to do the trick. I'll be happy to do that, and hopefully eventually when they do find a need for a FL driver, they can put me on the kind of rotation that you have. But I'm very grateful and excited... Hope I can meet you soon. God bless.

Gary, good for you! Mort and Jim seem to run a very professional safety dept. I see that Mort is doing for you exactly what he did for me when I was in your shoes. It just goes to show you how they handle business. As far as a referral fee that has never been spoken about. I don't do this to make any extra money, and I'm not even sure they offer one. I do this in hopes of getting an experienced, safe driver that wants to work for a class outfit like Calex. Trust me, when you are officially on board, you will see that everything I wrote about is the truth. Mort is a super guy, I appreciated the truth about everything he told me when I was going through the hiring process. Here it is a little over 2 months since I got hired and I can honestly say that everything that was told to me has turned out to be the truth. If you have any questions, please ask, I would be glad to answer them to make it a little easier for you. God Bless!

Hey all! I got home around 1pm today and have the weekend off. My plan to get the laundry list of issues with my truck fixed proved to be a total success while I was in PA Monday and Tuesday. Everything, and I mean everything was fixed that I had written up. It shows me that the shop is able to get you in and out when they say they would. I had to spend a night in a motel on the companies dime. I now have a new front suspension along with a host of other things that needed attention. God Bless!

    Hi John,

Glad you made it home okay...and congrats on them fixing your truck so well. It sounds like they do take care of business at Calex, for sure. Would you mind lending your truck to me, so I can get started there? LOL...

I've completed the testing process and am just waiting for a truck to become available so I can start there too! I can't wait to get going, but I can't wait too much longer because I've been without work for 3 weeks now, and I have been preapproved elsewhere as well... I really want to get on at Calex though.

I'm hoping and praying I get a call today from Mort saying we're ready to go. But it's all predicated on a truck becoming available. Oh well, good things come to those who wait, isn't that what they say?

God Bless and have a great weekend John.

Gary, I was talking with Mort the other day at the yard and mentioned your name, he told me the same thing, that they were waiting for a truck to become available. He had a husband/wife team going through orientation and dispatch already had them a load to Las Vegas. Patience is a virtue, and I do believe that the wait will be worth your while. I also heard from Mort that they had something like 218 apps that came in the last few weeks. And this is for a company that doesn't advertise with a little over 175 trucks on the road! Good luck with the wait, I'm quite sure it will happen shortly for you. Keep me posted. Gotta call dispatch and get my pre-plan for Monday. Maybe I'll see you in Pittston next week. Coffee will be on me!

They're really busy then eh John? I guess I should count myself lucky to be high on the list, and try to bide some more time. I too feel like Calex is a solid company, based on what you've shared, my little time I spent with the driver here who gave me my driving test last Sunday and what I can sense from Mort. Again, in this economy, I know one has to plan well and be patient. It's why I'm willing to stay out as long as necessary to accomodate Calex (3-4 weeks or more...when I was with Crete, it was nothing for them to leave me out there 6 weeks, then 4 quick days at home, and out again), and I'll do a great job for them, I know. I pride myself on being ontime or early, have a great attitude and generally cause no headaches for my employer. If I can do that, perhaps they'll put me on the Florida run once they have the freight. In turn, to have an employer who understands trucking and what we go through, and treat us with respect, is a win-win situation.

Thank you again so much for posting here and keeping us updated. You're the reason I chose Calex. God bless you and the family.

Hope to see you soon in Pittston too!
