I had to look up what a step brother-in-law was. That was a new one on me.

Nice & quiet at my place this morning. Wife is sleeping in (she deserves it) It's just me and the 2 dogs, who are both sound asleep on the couch snoring away LOL.

Ideally, from Christmas till Spring, it would be best to go into hibernation mode...like bears who gathered all that fat for their wintery sleep. All that winter driving combined with soon to be lower rates make the trucking less attractive. Now would be the best time to go to Cancun or somewhere exotic with palm trees and slack off for a few months. Well...if we only could afford it for a few months... Not necessarily financially but to be able to overcome the mental program of constant need to work and earn. That's a challenge. I don't know if I ever be able to retire and kick back for good, unless I know I have at least a million and half and a ton of gold in my basement. LOL

I wanted to emphasize something regarding what I posted for my December numbers. Namely, this is not the NORM.

These past few mos, as others have indicated, have been something out of the ordinary. My expectations (as noted) going into 2021 are that capacity is going to to loosen and freight rates are going to come down from what they have been during this historic year.

Going into winter is normally that way regardless, but I think the rates will drop precipitously back down to where they have ordinarily been. I hope my assessment is incorrect, however, either way my personal business M.O. won't change.

As such, I think I'll resist that urge to buy a new Lexus RX 450h F Sport after all ;-)

One of my daughters (and husband) left yesterday for Treasure Island, FL with their 3 kids. They kept it secret from the kids and sprung the news on them yesterday morning! Unfortunately, I looked at the 7 days forecast and it ain't 80 degrees a day LOL. Oh well, they'll just have to make do.

Can’t beat family time. Why do any of us do any of this? These times remind me that I’d rather live in a box then not have my wife and son. As a teen and young man I thought I had to make a bunch of money. It turns out that as you make more and more money, you realize that the people around you are everything. As long as you can pay your bills, that’s really all that matters end of the day.

I was fortunate in that sense. I worked in an office for 30 years just 5 minutes from home, and we took a family vacation every year. I started trucking when my kids were grown, but now my elderly parents are both winding down and needing more assistance. I find myself feeling guilty for not being close to home when they need me, and I'm always relying on my brother and wife to help out when I'm not home. I'm contemplating my exit plan from trucking now so I can be around for them like they were always around for me and my family. Not sure how long it will take me to get my alternative source of income established again, but I hope to be out of trucking completely in the coming year. As you said, family is just too important.

The older you get, the importance of family comes into sharper focus.

Unfortunately, for some, they've burned those familial ties so badly through poor choices over a process of years, it's very difficult to maintain that bond and structure which is the foundation of civilization itself.

The traditional nuclear family has been under assault in this nation for several decades now, and the effects of said attack is manifesting itself on so many fronts in our culture now.
