I sent an e-mail to the car-max corporate office. Regarding the higher than normal line haul fees. I do not expect for them to reply.
I have been in the logistic/transportation field for over 40 years and I specialized mainly in freight.
The car hauling business is very competitive. I contacted several brokers and obtained several line haul quotes along with the transit times. The origin and destinations were mainly from the east coast to the west coast. Car max charges $1999.00 for on vehicle. When I contacted the list of brokers the fee ranged from $1200.00 -$1300.00
They overcharging customers and they will not allow a customer to use a different carrier. What makes this even worse is that the customer is fully responsible for paying Car-Max, no matter if the customer decides to purchase the vehicle or not. The automakers in Detroit charge a flat-fee to ship a brand new car regardless if its destination. Carvana does the same thing this company charges a $699.00 fee. I would pay the $699.00 fee.
Regards,
Manuel.
Car max is over charging customer for shipping. vehicles

It’s their business. Are they not allowed to charge what they want or make rules as they wish?
Do you have rules in your house or car?
You’re free to do business with someone else. -
Car hauling has become THE biggest racket, mostly because they are taking advantage of someones misfortune, and need a car shipped now. My daughter shiped a car from L.A. to me, was a nightmare. Several quotes that were bogus, the car was tranferred to another company without telling us, just a bad deal, THEN, these crooks wouldn't stop hounding me for another shipment. I won't do THAT again.

So you want them to ship a vehicle 3,000 miles, and you are complaining about 2,000 dollars?
Would you ever haul a load that cheap? Why would you expect someone else to? -
- I figured i got a good deal shipping a pickup 900 miles for $600. Normally I’ve dragged my own vehicles home, cheaper and fun road trip

Car max must make money moving these cars around for potential buyers .
Last March I was eyeballing a silverado in Jacksonville fla , a couple weeks later it showed up in st Louis and from there it went to Kansas city , I then had it shipped to omaha and bought it .
I think they charged me 250.00 but it was worth it to me as it was exactly what I wanted and was up in omaha prepped and ready in less than 24 hours.
I like that I can pick a southern vehicle that hasn't spent half its life in calcium chloride and ship it up ...its 8 years old like new .
Bought my impala the same way and it came from las vegas.Mooseontheloose, '88K100, Tall Mike and 2 others Thank this.
