Today I have officially passed my test!!! I wanna say thank you to all you veteran truck drivers who helped out a rookie. Now that I have my license, any advice you can throw at me? I already know I have to keep my license clean and not mess it up but besides that anything else?

    tscottme and Lonesome Thank this.

Yeah Congrats......reminds me of March 1st, 1976 when I passed my test ! So you are now "married" to your truck and the highway ! Nothing else matters anymore. Have fun and be the best driver out there ! No excuses, no fail....... Carry on. :director::sad3:

Watch your mirrors, particularly when turning.

Practice makes, if not perfect, definitely better. After 20 years of driving buses, I had a heck of a time learning trailer backing. Take every opportunity that presents itself to get reps, the more you get, the faster you’ll get competent and then actually good at it.

Best advice I can give: stay out of truck stops. Dont be hanging out there and indulging in convo with too many other truckers. Reason being: if you like you're current gig, too many rain on parades, fill other drivers' heads with unattainable mularkey, all of which making you 2nd guess your current gig. Also, TRIP PLAN!!!! CHECK THAT ATLAS!!!! BE ON TIME!!! If you can't be on time, communicate issues with your dispatcher.

Prepare yourself to be used and abused.
Please, no showing off, going fast, trying to impress with how good you are. Going fast in tight places proves what you don't know.
Slow, smooth and steady wins every time.
Good luck and best wishes... :occasion5:

    Congratulations !!!!
As said above always look at the mirrors and GOAL. GO SLOW
It will take about a year to get used to backing and knowing where to put the the tractor so the trailer ends up where you want it.

    Mr. EastCoast Thanks this.
