But the worst part is I had to miss our only granddaughters first Christmas. I would take anything for that.

I’ve been trying to get in on this act over the last few days with playing games on my laptop.

Apparently OpenEmu is one of the better... “emulators” or whatever the term is. Any of you ever use it?

I've avoided using linux on my nvidia laptop since I've had bad experiences with nvidia's optimus. How does it do switching between integrated and external graphics these days? I heard they had something called Bumblebee for that as a counterpoint to Optimus and a pun on transformers.

Retroarch is what everybody loves. It's basically just a front end and downloader for every emulator you would want.

It's an HP Omen and somehow they locked out integrated graphics. Physically during manufacturing from what I can find out, not really sure.

It seems to work ok but I seem to be stuck with efifb on the VT. Maybe simplefb if using Grub.

I'm not 100% sure what you're saying about efifb and VT. I'm guessing your TTYs are low res because that's the res that the EFI boots into for the framebuffer? There's usually settings for the resolution of the tty somewhere or other. I don't remember exactly. Not all Intel chips have integrated graphics but they're usually denoted with an F in the product code if I recall correctly. The reason you'd want integrated is because dedicated is absolutely terrible for battery life. I'd check and see if you might be able to switch with Bumblebee. Check the specs on your chip on Intel's ARK as well to make sure. It would be worth it if you ever use your laptop on battery.

Also a simple search with your laptop model and linux might come up with solutions. There was a dedicated site a while ago for linux on laptops.

The Arch wiki is also a great resource. Read up on Optimus NVIDIA Optimus - ArchWiki

Lol, it is a hot battery hog but that's ok for when I use it.
Yeah, there isn't much info out there that I can find. It seems the cpu does support it but I think HP did something special with this model; 15-ce198wm

Integrated graphics won't even show up in Windows, only the Nvidia card.

Wow. Well at least it makes it simpler for linux but #### that's stupid.
