And to piggyback off that statement, this is why I went independent with my own numbers and equipment. I don't even like being hitched to someone else in a lot of these lease-on and under someone else's authority deals. Ultimately, your loyalty is to them and they own you to a certain extent.

That's just me though. Different strokes for different folks.

In other words, you don't look for business expansion, you want to stay a lone rider. Me too.
In that case, there is no room for loyalty understood as committment.

Exactly. My only loyalty is do the best job I can do to deliver the customer's load from point A to point B. The only expectation of loyalty I have from the customer is to pay me within the terms of the contract. That's it, nice and simple ;-)

Not that you would mind them LOYALLY call you back to offer the same juicy rate as the last time. Yes, that sort of loyalty I would never mind. Lol

But what I've discovered is that most of them that say that they will, never really call back with those juicy deals again. It is what it is. You just ride the wave, man.

I guess loyalty for me is repeat business and not going to the other guy to save a few bucks. Having a high value on service and commitment. Getting rewarded with new opportunities over time vs having to compete with 5 other vendors.

I agree there isn’t much loyalty in any of the transportation business but it is out there for sure. It always makes me feel good the higher risk and niche the freight gets to be able to give perfect service over and over where the customer truly can breath and not be worried all the time.

Sort of I’d imagine how @blairandgretchen does it with the oversized high value stuff. I bet it feels really great to off load a million dollar machine that might have taken months to build. And I bet the customer was much more willing to spend extra money for it to get done right vs Niagara shipping 300 loads of water per day out of a facility.

I feel really great after every load I deliver safely and intact, whether it's a $500 load or a $5,000 load.

However, I feel really great when I get paid ;-)

I guess loyalty and ... first and foremost a demand for it grows exponentially faster when you enter more specialized and niche-ish world where the service failures are less forgivable and service record accounts for something.
But it is not easily seen in a loadboard freight where random brokers and random carriers match. The act of loyalty is only for the duration of the transit.
Yeah...that water... how many times was I greeted by long faces upon delivering it.
Meanwhile I was warmly thanked by Uber freight for my outstanding service in this passing year. I got at least that...

Now that everyone tries to do ACH it feels less great then it used to when I held that paper check in my hand. Those were the days. Seems a lot more meaningful then numbers on a screen.

True. But trust me I’ve hauled my fair share of water! lol. I would get so stressed this time of year because they say... nah! It won’t freeze fuhgetahboutit!

Far as brokering to carriers. I love using the same ones over and over if possible. I feel like I’m doing a good thing for the customer and for the carrier. Therefore also good for me.

When my truck is doing repeat with a broker I love that too and try to protect it at all costs. I remember back during the scamdemic shut down, I DH significant miles to take loads that wouldn’t normally make sense. But, I knew if I missed one and they got other carriers on the cheap then I’d be screwed.

Happy last day of 2020 everyone! Here we are, completely ate up with this trucking stuff. Not trucking so let’s talk about trucking. Haha.
