Random LTL Rants (all are welcomed)

My rant, guys with higher seniority keep pawning off the eastbound runs on me so they don't have to stray away from their cake walk northbound daytime northbound runs that hardly ever deal with snow.
I've chained up over a dozen times aready this year, and find my home time consisting of me sleeping so I can get up and get back to work. Days off? More like sleep catch up days.
on the flip side, while the senior drivers are flaunting their laziness, I'm banging out almost 2k gross a week compared to the 1450 from the day runs, have become surprising effecient at throwing chains, and I have adapted to being able to switch from day to graveyard in a day.

Anyone lse feel like this pandemic also having the opposite effect on their job compared to other fields? The beginning of 2020 had me layed off for a few months, but now there seems to be too much work and not enough drivers.

 

Seniority sucks until you have it.

 

Yeah it does. Being a low life bottom feeder has grown on me though,the money is great, and all the adverse conditions that every other driver complains and tries to avoid has become somewhat of a cake walk for me. I used to loath chaining up. Yet after doing it so many times I've gone from 3 hours to 30 mins or less. I used to despise switching going from a day run to graveyard with 12 hours notice, but now it's not a big deal.

 

I'm in the drive thru side of food service and while things have slowed down right now due to the time of year, the work load was killing us for a while. I don't like to brag about it because I know many have been struggling, but yeah, I'm in that boat.

 

Every one wants it, but many don’t want to spend the time to earn it. My former location/employer has a driver with over 50 years of seniority. He is one of the best guys that work for Big Brown. He still likes his job and thus still goes to work every day. Several of the newer guys complained that “he needs to retire to open up a job”. I disagree completely as I feel that is his job as long as he wants it.

 

Care to give a little insight into being able to switch up sleep schedules like that?

 

Not everyone can do it. It was extremely difficult when I went from early mornings to late nights, but eventually I was able to sleep but was not really rested. I found that room darkening blinds, a window unit and or box fan(both mainly for the noise) and a noise machine (white noise) helped me. The phone had to be out of the room and put a note on the doorbell if you have one to not ring it. You would be surprised how many neighbors want help doing things when they see your truck in the driveway. If I could get asleep before the sun came up it helped drastically. The days I had to get in the bed at 10 or 11 am or even worse 6 pm it was a struggle at best.
