there isn't a federal regulation restricting it, but transporting a firearm across state lines is where the issue lies

I only truck through NM, TX, OK, CO and back. No issues with carrying in a vehicle there. Of course it's also company policy and whatever the shipper/receiver's policy is on it. I say just keep the lips zipped and don't make a fuss over it as long as you're not going near a place where a shakedown is mandatory.(one of those companies that goes cross border, military facilities,. etc)

We all want to find an empty spot to plink every now and then.

I was looking at getting something small like that but the websites were telling me that they are restricted in my Commie state (NY)...I don't really want something too long

Get a hacksaw? Not like legality matters. No chance in hell you'll get legal reciprocity in every state.

A handgun is much more practicle in the truck. Get one with a capacity of 10 rounds or less to maximize the states where it's not prohibited. NJ says hollow-point ammo is illegal.

Go to the gun websites to get gun info. ALWAYS keep in mind are you asking a question of 1) what's legal, 2) what can you PROBABLY get away with, 3) what is some guy on the internet CLAIMING he gets away with. Adopting some old wives tale you heard on a trucking website won't get you out of jail.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

For handguns, Handgunlaw.us has pretty good info on state laws nationwide. They are good about staying up to date too.
