I have the BXS in mine. 435/1650 turned up to 500/1850,.. all stock parts with the exception of free flowing mufflers.
Approaching 1.4 million. 116k on inframe done last summer due to a coolant leak and not catching it before I ran the motor hot. Cracked the head.
With 10 spd, 3.55 gear, driving sensibly when loaded, I am seeing upper 5's with 6 - 6.2 mpg on a regular basis pulling 53' step deck. I did have the ECM tuned for efficiency,.. not all out HP.
Very very reliable motor. I am of the opinion that had I not cooked the motor I would still be rolling on the original. Oil change and filters are done every 12k.
BXS is one of the better in my opinion because there is no difference mechanically from the 435 - 550hp Mine has the 10spd with the aluminum bellhousing (1650trq tranny) CAT will not uprate the motor because of this. You would have to find someone else to turn it up if you come across one like mine. Most of the ones I have seen are of the 475/1850 variety which is all anyone really needs in my opinion.
If you are looking for fuel economy with the ACERT look for a truck spec'd with tall gears. 3.25 - 3.42 at most and preferably with tall rubber. The ACERT gets thirsty at high RPMs. The ideal cruising speed for an ACERT is 1300 - 1400 RPM. Its very comfortable at low RPMs.

ACERT's according to most mechanics and owners I've talked to are a "lottery" motor. You literally won't know know if it's a gem or a dud. My company has several late model C-15 ACERT's and while they aren't a 6NZ or MBN, they do everything in their power to keep the good one's running.
The truck I drive has a 2006 C-15 NXS ACERT with 550/1850 and pulls like a champ. It pulls 137,500 lbs gross almost effortlessly for a 10-year old motor and begs for more all the time.
If you can get a strong maintenance history on the motor, I'd say it is easily worth it. They are fantastic when they work.snowman_w900, Ken_SFLAuto and SAR Thank this. -
Thanks for all the feedback you guys posted. They made me confident to get one of those C15 ACERT.
I'm getting a 2005 Peterbilt with a MXS ACERT. It will need to have the rocker studs of the exhaust manifold replaced but other than that it all looks good.SAR and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
