Most folks look at pay and benefits.

Better pay and better benefits means the job becomes your life and you'll be working 70 plus hours per week and likely go insane.

I'd rather find afew small companies that know me but never ever screw em .

When I wanna get out of the truck and go home for awhile it's just a phone call to comeback after I'm done with temp Services and donating plasma.

Inevitably I always end up back on the road and nice to know afew places deal direct like that and be loyal to them.

    I wanna go deeper here.

The company you hate might be the perfect fit for the next guy.

Vice Versa another drivers perfect fit might be you're living nightmare.

    Always remember that

Sounds like you’re just interested in working 4today and not to interested in the future, and obviously you must not have a family. If you’re not interested in building seniority to maybe have better runs or a set run and good benefits such as life, health insurance and a retirement program to protect you and your family.your slave comment doesn’t make sense unless you think a good job you’re not being paid?you obviously need money I seriously doubt your donating plasma your most likely being paid for it.

You have to put up with a certain level of unpleasantness to get the big bucks.

I could show you a check from 3 years ago that worked out to $0 take-home after deductions for one day's work.

Having gone through that, I make enough money NOW that I will protect this SAME job with all my effort, because in the long run it was worth it.

    Big picture.

When I want to drive I'll drive.

When I get sick of it I'll go home and do something else for awhile.

Better companies are out there, it takes hard searching and word of mouth. I am convinced that no truly good company has much more than 20 or 30 trucks. For sure no more than 50.

There is some truth in what was said by someone above, "making the big bucks requires harder and sometimes undesirable work."

Some are perfectly content to work at a mega outfit or even a smaller mega outfit (I'm talking 250 to 1000 trucks). You will never get rich at any of these, and no matter what you're told, you are ALWAYS just a number. Some are better than others. Some don't deserve to exist. The advantage is usually new or very new equipment. Trucks are usually so slow and underpowered it is hard to even get yourself into trouble. I simply could not take the micromanagement that most of these places pull.

I think at a bare minimum, rookies should be starting out around .45cpm dry van, and .60 to .65cpm for highly experienced drivers. If you're working for less, you're contributing to the problem out here and allowing and enabling mistreatment of drivers to continue.

I quit and switched companies last year. The one I was at last wasn't bad. I was treated well, had nice equipment, wasn't micromanaged and was left alone for the most part. 95% of the time I had sweet dedicated runs to Florida and AZ from MN/WI. But I have close to 20 years of experience, and they were paying me about the same as bottom feeders with 2 years or less out here. To make big money I had to always , always run big miles. I just got tired of feeling like the donkey chasing a carrot on a string, or the hamster running on the wheel every day nonstop. I got tired of delivering at US foods/Target/Sysco/Kroger/C&Sand the like and being treated like scum at receivers spending sometimes 2 hours just to check in, then being forgotten about for 5+ hours while my clock ticks away. Yeah I got detention pay but it still didn't make up for all the wasted hours I'll never get back.

I now work for a guy who pays percentage, and I will likely be on track to make over $100k this year. All of his drivers made that last year. I have averaged a little over $2000 gross per week since October, sometimes way more, sometimes less. We have only 12 drivers. It is still reefer. It still sucks at times. But I am well compensated for the suckiness when it occurs. 3 months here and I am already in a new truck. All that is asked of me is to take care of my equipment, stay out of trouble and be where I am supposed to be at the right time to the best of my ability. Own my mistakes if I eff up. That is all that's asked of me. I fuel where I want and take any route that I want. He just doesn't want us on the PA turnpike, and at what they are charging now I have no qualms about it. I am cut off at 70MPH but with what he's paying I can live with it.

Good jobs are still out there, you just have to search hard and be resourceful. And never settle for less than you know you're worth.

I don't have the "dedication" nor the passion.

Truthfully trucking is just something I picked up along the way but the money is good.

I use trucking as an inbetween to bring cash in the door.

That's why I have my few places and stay loyal to them.

For years I'd go out 6 month to a year then just quit find another carrier next time.

Now I know afew who know me for me and there's always empty trucks sitting back there.

Now that we know eachother I am here for now.

In the future it will only be a phone call to comeback again.
