I need some advice guys. I have two job opportunities. One is a local job which was exactly what I was looking for. The other job is for fedex driving doubles. Fedex told me I would be making good money as a rookie because I will be driving doubles. The fedex job is regional. I don’t know which is the better path for me. I would like to be home everyday but I’m not sure how much $$$ the first job is talking about.

When you say local, what does the job entail? There are many variations of local work.

Basically it’s no touch fright. I would just drive to the destination, get loaded up and then go and drop it off.

Pay for local gig vs fedex? Also, fedex ground or fedex freight?

    tscottme and truckdriver31 Thank this.

Okay, that is the better side of FedEx. We're getting there.

What is the pay differential? Do you know?

It would have to be enough extra money to go regional and not be home everyday.

I’m not sure, the only reason I can get a fedex job as a rookie is cuz I got a connect who hooked me up. The person I talked to didn’t tell me how much I was getting paid but he said I will be making good money. The other job that’s local I have no idea

Well then you're comparing two unknown quantities. If you aren't going to worry about how much money you could be making at FedEx freight, then go with the one that makes more sense with your lifestyle (the local gig).

If you ARE going to worry about that, find out how much money they are making versus that local company, and let that guide your decision.

My only but to that logic is which has more longterm potential? Where do you want to be in X number of years in regards to seniority, retirement, benefits... all of these are important considerations.

A great point. And something you will have to talk to the local drivers about.
