As somebody who drives a lot of 2 lane roads at night, my first thought was “there but for the grace of God go I”.

Saw a Blurple colored Crete Western Star today. Not a common sight. Had a four digit truck number which if I remember correctly is an owner operator number.

Yup, there are quite a few owner ops in trucks other than the standard red, blue, or vet colors.

I've even seen an older brown Crete 'hood' rolling around in the midwest a few times.

How can you hit five cows? They don't dart out like a deer. I've driven in open ranges for years and never had an issue.

Too many of you guys are more concerned with yakking on your Janet Jackson microphone than paying attention.

2 lane rural back roads at night. Come around a curve and Elsie and co. are standing there wondering where the grass went. I use to use lots of narrow winding back roads, and almost hit a bovine myself in a cabover. Of course that truck was a wildlife magnet. It attracted a deer, owl, hawk, numerous armadillo and opossum, skunk, and a half dozen species of songbirds. I killed so much wildlife, the shop called me 'killer' every time I came in. They were gonna play a gag on me and have vinyl stickers of all my kills put on my truck like a WW2 fighter pilot...but they never did.

Depends on the weather, the roads, and the cows. With a bad combination of circumstances a small herd of cows could easily catch a driver off guard.

Generally, this means the driver was driving too fast for conditions, but this time of year, cow ponds can throw up a small fogbank fairly easily, and black angus cows are a pain to see in the dark in any circumstances.

Without knowing more, I will not criticize, though I suspect it was preventable.
