Wish that I could THANK this numerous times 608

*Disclaimer* I've read every Post in this Thread and it's predecessor prior to it being derailed and relocated to the Political Section

Wasn't the use of the Stimulus Funds and other associated Programs meant for Folks that have lost their jobs and were suffering Economic Hardships due to fallout from the Virus? Paying off Equipment with these Funds hardly seems to be the purpose of the Government Programs

"Besides, most people don't realize that they'll owe taxes on that money at some point."

You mean millions and millions of people will have to pay taxes on the stimulus money they received? Where did you read that?

*Disclaimer* I did not use PPP money I received to buy or pay off equipment. I used it to pay myself payroll during a downturn due to Covid. All legally documented and filed with the Feds in lieu of the forgiveness clause included in the terms of the program.

As to the SBA contacting me and informing me that because I had an existing SBA loan which qualified for 6 mos of payments being covered under the CARES Act, which they deducted, anyone who claims they would of not have accepted that, I call bull.

You don’t think they are gonna consider that income and want their income tax money on it?

Why does a successful business person need to take a " forgivable" loan in the 1st place? Was Ur Business down due to the Virus or personal choice?

When the first stimulus was issued last year, tax experts were saying it was taxable because the language wasn't clear in the bill. They cleared up the confusion and the current round of stimulus does not factor into your tax liability, and they'll probably do the same for the first round and waive it there as well. Anybody who received unemployment benefits on top of the stimulus will need to declare that as taxable income, and most of those people received a lot more in UE benefits than that got from the stimulus. So hopefully people who received unemployment in addition to the stimulus checks held some aside for taxes.

FWIW, I could have applied for and received an SBA loan for my company, but I didn't need it. My grand-dads would have jumped out of their graves and kicked my butt.

In other news, loads are picking up a bit here in the west, but the rates are down to pre-pandemic levels. Most of the loads in my normal lane to the PNW from NorCal are hovering around the $2 per mile mark down from $3-$5 in November. Retirement looks more appealing by the day.

Didn't you see that Blue states were practically shut down for two months and no business activity was going on?
