I understand your emotion. I am also a driver and drive my semi truck 3-4 times weekly. I also have two drivers who drive "their" trucks.

I feel that it is my responsibility as the owner to "trust but verify", as another user said here. I tried to "verify" without unfounded accusations being made to the driver.

You sound like a smart guy. So one day, perhaps, you save money and would open your own trucking outfit, and then buy a couple more trucks and get drivers. Let's say a driver comes to you asking for a reimbursement of a fuel expense, without the actual gallons/dollars, with a preauthorization that looks high to you.

What would you do? Would you just pay out without thinking? Would you stop for a minute to think if it is possible? Would you try to ask the truck stop for the actual fuel receipt?

My business neighbor runs a porta-potty business. He took delivery of a truck load of new porta-potties and his employee stole one of them in the employee's pickup truck. I know about it because the owner came to me asking for camera footage from one of my cameras. It turned out that the employee thought that the owner would not notice "just one" porta-potty missing, but the owner of course counted and noticed. Things happen.

He was compensated for the actual expense. The fuel oasis is paying "transaction fees", not the cardholder. I doubt he is paying interest and he did not mention.

But I did not accuse him, I asked here how I can verify his expense.

Yeppers. Just re-read your first post in the thread and it sounds like an accusation to me. Might not be how you meant it, but that's how it sounds.

I guess its subjective but an accusation to me is black and white. He inquired, didnt accuse. For example, a confrontation, OP asking his employee directly, would definitely come off as accusatory. Instead he did his own homework to be sure. I dont see anything wrong with that at all considering most business owners watch their funds like a hawk if not pay someone to do it. These folks arent in business to be giving out money for free. Nothing wrong with keeping up with your books

You sound like a nice enough person to me. It's ok to be cynical in today's world.
The card itself has transaction fees and if it's a credit card with a balance there will be interest, won't be much but still.

If he doesn't mention it not much you can do, In the interest of personal relations maybe you could ask him.

Wouldn't some kind of fleet card save you money?

I'll just keep being a zero over here, doing what I can to make my life easier and keeping this truck rolling. Im glad I'm not so #### negative. That must be miserable. Luckily I have the time today, my loads not ready for the second day in a row, another easy $250 for sitting here.

We don't pay the transaction fees. Though.

    That's merchant.

There's a fee for credit to the merchant. No fee for debit.

And he paid the driver for the amount put on the card. If the driver decides to pocket the cash, not put it towards the credit card, and carry a balance that is charged interest, why is that the owners fault?
