    Hi All!

I am not a Truck Driver, but I do have a huge appreciation for you all!
I am a Marketing Manager for a trucking company that has been around for 27 years!
As of late, we have really been struggling with turnover.
I would love input on what makes you stay at a company, what do you like about where you work??
(We offer health and vision , home every night, free coffee...)

    Thanks in advance!!

Starting at midnight when it could be done more humanely.

Getting more than one day off is like pulling teeth.

Disorganization and forevermore getting down to plan C D and E.

Inward facing cameras..... or micromanagement in general.

Beeping blooming "safety features" on trucks or asinine "safety rules" geared lower than the lowest common denominator.

    Condescending office staff.

These are all things that could cause it and there are many many more.

Pay I can count on. Respect. Communications. Excellent equipment. I appreciate you asking... but did you ask your drivers this question? If you didn't - there lies the answer to your turnover.

I'm with a great company that could have almost zero turnover but one dispatcher that is rude to everyone spoils it for the company drivers .
I'm an owner op so I just stay out of mr. Rudes area , its not a coincidence we have almost zero turnover on the owner operater side .

We have been awarded a "Top Workplace" the last 2 years, this award is earned by employees taking a survey. This year, our biggest group of negative responses came from our Drivers. I would love to see the information but to see all the feedback, we have to pay a pretty penny, that unfortunately is not in our budget at the moment. I wanted to see what some others in the industry like to see in their place of business, that I could bring back to my team.

I appreciate everyone's feedback from this!

When i pay for the tires at 2 am as a company driver since i cant get a hold of anyone and am able to make my delivery on time, I just want reimbursed, dont second guess me and whine about how you could have saved another 200$ if i waited 6 more hours.

When i say its time for an oil change or truck wash, just listen, i live in the thing, youve never seen it.

When i warned you for 6 months that you needed to get the clutch linkage and transmission fixed as a company driver, and i end up with a crunchy transmission and a tow to a shop, pay me enough to go home and not starve while you get it fixed. (Was 6 weeks mainly the shop's fault)

Those are three things that kept me with that company.

Things that made me leave 3 other conpanies

    1. Running the truck 100% as an asset to be milked and the driver as a robot
    2. Never bothering to get any loads planned ahead, as in, id sit after empty at 11 am till 11 the next day
    3. Constantly harping about "safety" and then constantly ignoring every suggestion i make about giving us proper tools to do the job safely (the last one was closest to your situation, i took a 10k paycut by leaving and it was worth it)

Dispatchers are the face of the company when it comes to the driver. If a dispatcher is rude and disrespectful to the drivers then resentment builds up till the job is not worth it. Dispatchers who play favorites are just as bad.

Drivers are the life blood of the company and while we don't need to be coddled a little respect would go a long way.
