Bull haulers/Cattle haulers doing 80-90mph

Trying to out run the smell. LOL

 

Speed limit is 80 in much of WY.. So as much as 85 is not unthinkable...

If the speed limit is 60 are you suprised when people go 65???

Or how about when everyone is going 62+ on the 294 in IL and IN where the speed limit is 55???

Everyone has thier own comfort and skill level... I'm more worried about the Swift's, CRE's, Werner's, and all the other flip flop wearing crowd than I am about the bull haulers.

 

Want to know what is really fun???? Being passed by a bullhauler back in the old days when they drove cab overs. I have seen some cars almost knocked off the road. Of course, Bullhaulers were not the only ones that did it, but they did do it. Think about it, a cab over is pushing 70 to 80 MPH winds. That's hurricane strength!

 

I was pulling a reefer one time, in Kentucky, and a bullhauler was in front of me. We both stopped at a toll booth, and when he pulled away, one of his cows sprayed diarrhea across the tool booth and inside the window. The toll booth operator had just stepped outside and had his back to the toll booth and didn't notice what happened. I swiped my card and moved on. Looking in my mirror, he still was outside and hadn't noticed what happened.

 

Years ago if you could run with the Bull Haulers you had a triple digit truck. With a live cargo the point is to get them to their destination all alive and well. Speed does come in to play in this scenario.

 

Question; during hot weather speed helps keep the cattle from overheating?

 

If its hot enough you really need to worry about over heating animals then you run at night.

 

I don’t think speed helps cool down any once you reach a certain temp. Typically you don’t see many cattle pots running loaded during the day in hot weather. My experience with them was they typically loaded at the stockyard after sunset and drove thru the night. I see a lot of pig haulers during the day but they seem to be short haul.
