Just to update, since July when I started with LS I’ve managed to maintain 1.80 per mile net after LS cut, fuel and all expenses. I don’t run more than 5 days a week and I took 3 weeks off during that 5 month stretch. In a company dry van. I’m doing ok, I know I can do a little better and I am as time goes on I was completely green when I started in 2020.
I have thought about my own authority, I have access to Uber’s load board through a buddy just to compare rates to what I see on LS board. They seem to be slightly lower than LS, I’m not totally convinced I’m ready to go solo yet. I have had several agents I’ve booked with they get LS rates higher cause they make a percent off the total. For example I got a load out Phoenix Az back to Texas. I wanna say the rate was $2700 for LS and for a independent they were giving $2300. After it all washed out I woulda made 300-ish more on the load.
I having had any issues with LS this far, may hang out until the world returns to something more pre 2020 lolfeldsforever, kindastupid, blairandgretchen and 3 others Thank this. -
Good deal, I have studied the Landstar loadboard and Truckstop loadboard like a hawk and your 100% spot on as far as rates go and Landstar using the pay for Landstar BOC vs Approved carriers. Still negotiable but not quoted the same rate as a Landstar guy. Way diff than what Uber offers.
I really like hauling for landstar as a carrier, simple, fast pay. Some good loads. I can see why someone leases on with them vs 100% own authority. Tons of guys are successful with them. Two of the loads I’ve hauled have been double brokered but the rates were good and they pay just as quick. They don’t volunteer they are double brokered but I am starting to be able to spot them.
