Don't forget the convex mirrors either. You might not be able to gauge exactly where your trailer is with those but you should be able to see if you're going to hit something. Like the nose of another truck.

What I mean is, once you hit something it's too late. So use whatever method works for you, so you don't hit ####. If you have to GOAL 100 times, so be it.

I have no problem with GOAL, however many times it takes. I was under the impression that the school you went to did not teach you how to properly use your west coast mirrors when straight line backing.
JUST SAYING i like my head were it is so i will keep it in the truck.

Who the hell sticks their head out on a straight back lol? I was talking about docking and getting in a hole. You use your mirrors once you start to straighten out. Of course I was taught how to use my mirrors lol. I don't think I could have made it 2 years without knowing that basic info lol.

the mirrors are useless #### things shake so bad, they might as well take them off in all honesty

I just don't underastand why he thought that's what I was talking about because the OP wasn't talking about straight backing lol. If your mirrors are no good that's a problem. But most yard jockey's can probably back in them holes blindfolded because that's all they do. Actually, I'd like a gig like that now until this economy straightens back up.

its a pain in the #### honestly, most of them we have are JUNK, yard to small, dock very tight, stressful cuz theres 4 people needing 4 different trailers switched out at once and they all need them NOW

i did it 10 hours a day everyday for a year straight, at that time backing became second nature to me, like driving a car.....but the best "trailer backer upper" in the world still needs mirrors at some point, mainly just for when you are straight and just need to back straight in

anyone who hangs out the window for a straight line back will have neck and back problems

Yeah there are plenty of places I've delivered where I felt sorry for the hostlers lol. There's a big target dc not far from me, if only they were hiring spotters as those yards are gravy man.

i was giving a guy on youtube a hard time, he was a hostler and posted videos of how to back a trailer, they literally had like 5 feet between doors and the yard was big as the sahara desert, had nice lines painted on it and kept the trailers 5 feet apart even in the yard

Well one good thing for you is, if you ever decide to venture otr, you'll have backing in tight spots licked. Tell ya what though, I never ran into a yard jockey that wasn't willing to help a driver out. I've had a few go out of their way to help me find empties and what not (you know in those hidden places some yards like to hide them).

I think the hostlers are making more than the drivers now lol.
