I think I would be looking for a different school. Yea everyone has automatics but I believe you should be taught to drive in a standard and then you will be versatile. Lest we forget any asshloe can drive an auto
Should I pay the $500 to learn manual at school?

I would pay $1000 for someone to teach me to drive a twin stick B Model Mack.
I would give them an extra $250 if they slapped me upside the head every time I scratched gears just "like pappy did back in the 1950's/1960's."
In all seriousness I would learn to drive the manual if you can. It will truly make a better driver of you and make you more connected to the machine instead of having the machine make the wrong decision for you almost half the time. You will be able to do something 75% of drivers out here can't. The sad thing is, you won't truly learn unless you are in one for at least a few months, and sharpen your skills on the mountain passes and in the rain/snow/ice.
I miss my 13 speed dearly.
In my opinion Freightliner (DT12) and Volvo/Mack make the only decent automatics, and even those get on my nerves. -
Serious Question...
Do they teach students these days to use a paper atlas and how to fill out a paper log? -
Had to pay extra to take the logbook course. I opted out since I was already using paper logs driving a glorified 1-ton lol.

I would pay it. If your gonna be a company driver for a career some of the top paying companies require you drive a manual. Walmart, UPS, Old Dominion etc.
Things change. When I started out I was Pro OTR F local. Now I’m like F OTR rather be home. Some of the home more jobs that pay well require manual driving.
