I have no doubt there were pileups.
But when I started trucking the limit was 55 mph and all those in the videos seemed to be going faster than that imho.
But we also learned how bridge decks are colder then roadbeds when we got a drivers license.
Maybe it was a northern thing.

They always have been.(You may see a couple of trucks out before, that's the exception) I used to think it was crazy when I was active duty stationed there and the base would close down over a small amount of snow/ice. After the 1st yr I understood why.

The speed limit used to be 50-55 then they raised it to 60-70. Which I don't know why they did in the city.

I wonder if the speed thing isn’t due to the ice?

seems once you hit the brakes on ice you speed up

    And
A lot of the problem is training. Not the #### elogs. Not road conditions

    Training
I had a guy back into me so close he closed my mirror to the window
He had 2 weeks experience and his trainer 3 months
Neither of them had ever been on snow or ice. Or in bad weather

If that pos OOIDA did there job. We wouldn’t have most of this

Was the visibility bad? How are they not seeing lights stopped ahead?

Not sure at the exact time but I was just behind it all and visibility seemed fine

But when I stopped last night. The TS walkways were complete ice covered

This am. Same thing so I assumed roads were not much better being in TX. MN would have been better prepared but evidently not here
I think I was running like 60’s and I was being passed like I was parked

It was near the bottom of an elevated portion so maybe limited visibility and by the time they saw lights it was too late

I agree with you on the training aspect! I'm working on my 8th year driving started at 19. I was fortunate I had my Great Uncle to train me he was a hard ### and nitpicked every little thing I did wrong! Lol towards the end of my training not one day passed that I didn't want to kick him in his bad knee lol! But he gave me a solid set of skills and knowledge to build upon that has allowed me to make a good living for myself. New drivers need to know there limitations right out of driving school your not a super trucker and with these new idiot proof trucks there just throwing anyone in them.
