@Dave_in_AZ if you have any advice I would appreciate it ideally I would like to dispatch for 5-10 trucks and not against working for someone if it can be done from home and when I am on the truck. I am on the truck most of the time minus when it snows then mama stays home with the crotch goblins lol

There's a truckload of stuff that goes with this.

I mostly don't give out too much advice on teaching people how to compete with me.

Here's a start, you can go from there-

    Ask yourself-

What relationship are you going to have with these drivers? There's no way you're going to see a good load, call DooBob, let him mull it over, then try and book it. Cause it's gone. So they are REALLY going to have to trust you.

It takes time to develop. One F up erases ten atta boys. Once you get a bit established, and that's only through blood, sweat, and tears, unless you're kin to someone, then they'll call you with your choice of picks. But you better take one if you want to keep that kind of repor going.

What kind of freight are you well versed in? I'm really good with van. Don't have even a clue about the rest.

How are you going to be paid?

What are you going to do when DooBob breaks down? When DooBob's load cancels? Gets afu, now his HOS are whacked, or the shipper is closed.

Now times that by 5 or 10.

You can't go aw F it, you have an obligation to these guys/gals.

And no one cares about your sad DooBob stories. You do or do not.

I think you win or you don't. And fairness really doesn't factor into that.

I always remember that movie " The Pursuit of Happiness " with Wil Smith.

Hires on as an apprentice at Payne Webber.

There's 200 guys in the room, the old man walks in and says," We're hiring one of you. The sole criteria for that person is, is results. "

@Dave_in_AZ I can def understand the competition part....I am not really looking to make it a business per say. I just want to make a little extra income. Mostly looking for something that I can do while I am on the road and at home looked into being a broker and that is not really what I am looking to do. I know primarily flat beds, maxi, hot shot and reefer. I am pretty savvy in the trucking industry my dad drove all my childhood and my hubby has drove since I met him. The other questions are exactly why I was wanting to see if I could get a little advice on here to be prepared if a truck breaks down or a shipper is closed. First part of the month hubby was ran off the road by a four wheeler caused him to lose control of the truck pup trailer whipped out snapped his straps and half the load on the pup went all over the I5. I like to think that I handled that pretty well given the circumstances. If you do not mind sharing more info as I have looked online and all I find is courses that want you to pay to take them yada yada. I understand your position on it being in the business but I am not looking to go big I would be content with 3 - 5 trucks. Perhaps you can advise me I am happy to send anyone with a dry van your way!

I have a friend that does this in Atlanta, she handles 10 drivers with their own authority, and from what I can tell, you have to babysit a bunch of cry babies that can't seem to handle a phone call or at least speak with civility to a broker. So, they have to use her, she has to treat them like shes the boss most of the time. Your mileage may vary though
    Good luck.
