ya a friend of mine use to work there. it is not a very nice place to work at, very low mile and low pay!
trucks are badly governed with very little jake brakes! the company does eveything it can to short the drivers out of pay
    and bonuses
I need to get my friend on here he can tell you all the crap this place does to its driver

Wow, BossHogtt your friends experience sounds terrible. My BF just recieved a job offer from them and they sound wonderful. Ofcourse that is why I'm here, to do my research.
They fly you in for paid training, Decent Benifits, 401K, Per Diem, Lay Over Pay, Dock Pay, Break Down Pay, Paid Vacation, 7 Major Holiday's a year, out 7-10 Days then home or you can stay out... .37-42 CPM to start. So far it sounds just a good as the Major Aerospace company I work for exept it's OTR... I would love to hear what your friend has to say...

well i have to agree with BossHogtt i worked there for almost 3 years the Per Diem is taken out of you gross pay then the taxes are taken out of what is left then they add the Per Diem back in so in truth the driver pays there own Per Diem so when you go to do your taxes you will find out you can not clam your Per Diem but the company gets your tax Per Diem break, all in all the way this is setup is only that you are dropped into a lower tax bracket
! Yes the mileage is very low Portland or. to the San Francisco bay area and back to Portland or. in 5 to 6 day if that is good then go for it!
the owners do not have CDL'S and have never drove a truck they do not have a clue but they set the truck up to company specs. were they get this info who knows. the otr truck have the smallest engine they can put in them then they are governed but all otr trucks are filled with as many pallets they can get into a trailer so yes in the end they jake brakes do not have the compression to work very well
as the company has a rpm limit and if you go over that limit you lose .04 cpm same with speed go over 62 mph and lose .04 cpm
now for what to expect after 90 days you will have to sometime work on your break periods (sleeper berth) to make some delivery time work.
the big pain in the ### is there snark program, if you not get a correct case count or pallet and spot count you get a snark if you do not temp the products up are picking up get a snark, if you do not write all the info on the BOL's as per the office wants get a snake
when you get a snake then the phone calls start coming from the office
to the point yes they have drivers they that have been there a long time but they are at the top of the pay scale i think so they don't care about company policy and they all say what good things this company is about
these guys do not do the runs you will be doing so you can figure that one out
like all trucking companies they paint them selfs up very good it is the crap you have to go through once you start working for them
oh then you have all the broke down trailers to deal with they seem to love sending the bad trailers out otr so the drive have to stop to get them fixed so if you think you can deal with this and the 62 mph limit and the 1500 rpm limit then all the snarks your going to get and then the low mileage then working in your break time (ya this happen because they can't get loads loaded on time due to what ever reason)
getting detention from 2 of there customer uscold and americold is like getting teeth pulled you have to give up 4 hour in the dock before they will talk to you
so no not a very good place to work for then if you start to question things? well you figur out what they will do

I just left this company it is the worst mistake I have ever made going to work for a company!
First off in orientation the HR manager she tells you all the great things about this company like all HR managers it is all
bull crud coming out of her mouth!
1 company paid per diem for off the first thing deducted form your pay roll work sheet is this per diem
so let say for 2 weeks your mileage pay lay over pay detention pay and drop pay totals $1500 and you got $300 in per diem
they subtract $300 from your $1500 that leaves you $1200 then on your pay stub it shows your earnings as $1200 this is converted
to a hourly pay as never over 86 hours for two week the reason for this accounting trick is to shorten you on unemployment insurance
then the taxes are taken out the woollaa then the per diem they took out of your real gross earning is added back in (company paid per diem MY ###) now when you go to do your taxes you cant claim your per diem because the company says they paid it so they take the tax credit they just stole from you!!!
what this does is you lose money in your social security and unemployment insurance but it does drop you in a lower tax bracket
all in all you pay your own per diem here!! and they screw you for it

2 yup the mileage sucks here 1000 to 1800 miles per week and if you complain you get even less! they have a group of drivers there that have been there a long time but they group together and they get all the very long mileage runs and the rest of the long runs are brokered out to owner op's. the company drivers get all the crappy runs that they cant get no one else to do and this is all you will do!
I do not know about snake I think one of the guys said the QA's used to be called snarks and they dish out this QA's like candy
there is so much BS you have to do when you pickup a load for this company and you do not get paid for none of this that it is not worth it and when you get that QA you get if not 2 phone calls you get 3 of them and each one they do there best to make you feel degraded

3 is there trucks they are so underpowered it is a joke! my dodge 3500 pulls a heaver load as per scale then these dam trucks
and yes there is no power behind the jakes the company says they are a LTL fleet and that is BULL too all there OTR truck run full truck loads. the company charges per pallet and they cram just as many pallets as they can into that trailer
most of the time you go to the san Francisco bay area you will get loaded at us cold storage at night with no scales open at that time
but they demand that once you are loaded you have to start moving to get that load back to there warehouse asap
a lot of guys have gotten overweight tickets from this

4 the dispatch people do not give a crud all they want you to do is what they tell you to do! the thing is you will find that you have to do a lot of sleeper birth deliveries this is no #### and if you say anything to dispatch you just told to do the job but if you follow the fmca rules and deliver when you are aloud to from the HOS you get QA's and then all you get is the crappy runs no one else will do
they wont let you go or fire you unless you have an accident but they do make it so you will quite!!
in my short time there they had hired 2 other drivers and they both left before I did because of the run and there dispatch

the office people are very very good at covering there Butts and passing the blame else were

I am an owner operator with this company. Been here for 6 years. Yes this company has issues just like any other company. Yes I get the long runs but I WORKED HARDTO GET THEM. Yes the ccentral valley sucks, we all know this. Maintenance has improved significantly and the company trucks are from pensky. So penske settings is what you get. I have run a company truck to Texas and back and had no issues with power or the jakes. Under powered try doing heavy haul witha cummins L 10 315 hp. Here your hob is what you make of it. I ddon't plan on leaving any time soon. As an owner op the revenue is great the support is great and the CFO has a cdl so if you bounce around alot and expect somethingfor nothing goto wwork for a big fleet that will promise you the world. No company is perfect.

Well, this is an old thread, with a few recent posts, but as always with disgruntled drivers, so much WRONG information being handed out. And yes, I'm a Kool Pak driver.

I've been waiting to do the same on their lease program. Supposedly, I'm at the top of the list. 3 weeks ago they still had a brand new Volvo at the yard. It's supposed to go to a L/O out of Bend, but he didn't want an automatic. Chomping at the bit...

Kool Pak has been good to us for the last 3 years. Running Transcon in a brand new truck.

There are issues everywhere, you just have to pick your battles.
