So i've run into a minor problem with my new end dump. Namely that the steps on it arent deep enough for me to safely climb. Because i just cant get secure footing. 3 inch deep steps and size 17 feet mean i can only just get the edge of my steel toe in, and end up with all my weight on that which is iffy at best. And yes i knew of this problem before getting this trailer. It was the only one i found on my budget AND that met the specs i needed.

That said seeing as my end dump does not have a man door and is a lease trailer i cant modify. I am wondering if anyone knows of a ladder i can clip and/or bolt up over the side for when i need to move bows or adjust a load. Its not a huge problem yet as i can just remove 1 or 2 bows to leave a gap for a loader then swing the gate open when i need to get in. But it would be nice to have something i can actully get more then a toe hold on and more secure footing and am less likely to fall off of when trying to climb back out.

I dunno about mounting to the side but my company throws one on the dolly leg supports in case we need up there if the front door is blocked. I bungee the sides to keep it from rattling and strap the middle. I’ve heard bungees don’t count as DOT approved securement so that’s the reason for the strap.

Thats pretty much what im doing now, Biggest problem i have is when i hit non level ground and try to transfer from ladder to trailer top. I just know the #### thing is going to slip and dump me face first into some jagged scrap or broken glass one of these times.

Ohhhh I see. I’m an idiot. I misunderstood what you were meaning. @Dennixx i think is on to something with his suggestion. I found this online it’s a “replacement tanker ladder” from Grainger. This MAY work. Or something like it perhaps.

Stowing it may be an issue. I dunno the dimensions if it’ll stick out laying across the dolly legs. Maybe strap it to the back of the cab if you’re able, or if something like that would fold up, that’d be the ticket.

Thats actully pretty much perfect. I can easily torch that in the middle and install hinges so it folds and stuff it in my spare tire rack ontop of the spare. Hell depending on how far it sticks out i can likely tack weld it to the side of the truck and just grind off the weld marks and pass the shiny spots off as repairs when/if i return the trailer (lease has a purchase option and if the trailer is solid i may use it). Thank ya! Sure beats my plan B of cludgeing together basicly that out of some 1 inch rebar.
