After you admit mistake they will audit you and recalculate mileage to apply penalty.

    How do you know that?
If they want an audit, be my guest. As far I am concerned, it was an honest mistake reported immediately - 6 weeks before the renewed IRP would be in effect. I don't see a reason for any penalties and will contest them based on the fact that I called them right after their system detected the mileage discrepancies and I requested the renewal process to be reset. Before they even received already sent package.
They said that once the new (corrected) invoice is generated, the erroneous one will be automatically detected and all the paperwork, including payment check returned back to me. That did not happen. They processed the incorrect paperwork, cashed the check and sent the renewed Cab card. I decided to stop the payment on the second check with the correct amount (less by $10) and will contact them about whether or not I should file some additional paperwork. I hope when they start processing the second - corrected invoice, they will be able to see that first one was wrong and they simply correct the wrong mileages and issue me a refund for $10.

How do I know? Was audited. Plus all your mileage is wrong because you use GPS or odometer. IRP and IFTA use PC Miler. Be ready to pay difference

The mileage was wrong because I calculated them based on the wrong quarter - I simply confused the sheet of paper and it was my fault.
The system detected the discrepancies between the reported IRP miles and IFTA miles the first night after generating the invoice. The difference was calculated to my disadvantage by $10 - I had nothing to gain by making this error. Unfortunately, I sent it on the same day that I processed it online, before it was caught as wrong.
Whatever... I did my best effort to make things right at this point.
BTW...what sort of panelties we talk about ... in hundreds or thousands? LOL

$36.00 But WTF! I use my ELD for miles tracking. ELD use GPS, the GPS system accuracy something close to inch and will report all miles even i was circling on the yard. State tax commission use PC miler. Distance city to city. See how they smart? Government in one word.

    TallJoe Thanks this.

I use the same method as you. That's why I pay extra for mileage tracking and IFTA reporting. I bet that this method is way more accurate from using PC miler - after all it utilizes the odometer readings. I totally agree, it is best to stay away from the bureaucrats.

    Snailexpress Thanks this.

I use ELD for miles, miles that are actually driven! Not PC miler. I don't think so.
So, am I doing it wrong?

    LOL
And you were giving me advice! I hope you got things figured out by now for yourself. I paid mine in Springfield. I didn't want to depend on the mail that has been delayed often where I live. They said they have a lot of issues with the mail.

Yes, my clerical error was corrected. They processed the redone IRP form with corrected miles that I sent to them the second time.
I already received back the correct invoice with their stamp "paid in full". However, they would not refund the $10 overpayment. They said, they can accept an overpayment up to $10. So it was possible for them to process the 1st check I sent them. The 2nd check was sent back to me. It was unnecessary for me to put a stop on it (cost of $25).
Next time, I'll process the renewal as soon as it becomes possible, to have plenty of time for correcting any mistakes. Once I know that there are no issues with the renewal, I can delay sending the payment until the end of February - they advise to send it early enough so they can receive it before March 1st.
Once you pay the invoice, they would not refund it even though you may sell the truck. You can only transfer the IRP to another truck.

Thank you for the extra info.

Which miles are used? I use ELD miles. I haven't used the PC miles.
