New O/O need advice

Are you an o/o yourself and have you driven a truck before? Or are you an investor?

 

You can offer a choice, percentage, mileage, or weekly flat rate. But on mileage or weekly, you'd likely have to do the dispatching yourself, whereas a percentage pay driver could be motivated to self-dispatch, so they should also be able to make more than the weekly flat rate.

Remember, sometimes when drivers quit, they just take the truck with them and go home. Then you have to find it. So if you live near them, it would theoretically be easier for you to find and recover your truck when they abandon their post. But if you already have contacts you know and trust who live in your territory, that could help things get started.

 

I’ve got an owner that runs 3 trucks with me. He pays his drivers 43% of net, after fuel lease and all expenses. Send to work out good for both.

 

In Ohio I’d say 60 cents per mile to attract someone for hopefully long term. I wouldn’t pay someone percentage myself. Next thing you know they’ll think they can do it better and try to buy their own truck.

 

Yeah 60 cents all hub miles is what I’m talking about. As far as within your state... that’s up to you. I personally like to inspect my trucks each week or at least biweekly.

 

Normally, I'd say you put the cart ahead of the horse, but if the truck is paid for, no big concern. I've been reprimanded for giving my outdated, yet still somewhat useful advice, so I'll just say, best of luck. Insurance will do their best to do the little guy in, sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but there are better places to invest in today. For the record, I worked for 25% 30 years ago.
