Last DUI in 2008; several companies will hire you.
You may not even have to list them on trucking job applications. Companies will find out anyway on background checks, but still, only list what the applications ask for. Read the applications carefully; "Have you had a DUI within the last 5 yrs. etc.

The state might pay for cdl school through the California WIOA Program.
Can also apply for trucking company cdl schools.
Be prepared for hair follicle drug test. A positive can set someone back by months or years.

 

I think Stevens Transport still does urine test. Texas residents are sent to school in Texas and others are sent to private schools. Tuition, transportation, meals, lodging are provided.

If your last DUI was in 2008, you have a lot of options for companies. Most companies will consider an applicant if their DUI is over 5 years old, the rest of them will usually consider when it's over 10 years old and few companies will not consider you at all. Yours is over 10 years ago so it shouldn't be an issue at all, especially if you disclose it when asked about it. When you say "Checkered past" are you referring only to your DUI's or is there something else you haven't mentioned that you are concerned about?

I'm just south of Louisville Ky. Been following this a bit. I am looking to change careers and get my CDL. I am bald on top with very little body hair. I too am looking for a start out company to go to either for training or right out of school. The reason I bring up the hair topic is Alot of what I have read is if you don't have enough hair to be tested it can be considered a refusal/fail. I would be looking for a company that doesnt hair test for that reason. Any suggestions other than waiting till my hair grows out...if it will. By the way I am 52 and don't do drugs. Thanks for a company suggestion or any info.
