    Sounds like a trailer issue.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

Third guess, single air cans, trailer doesnt have brakes

(They exist, its not common, and i dont like it, but it crops up here and there)

With the trailer park brakes not set (trailer air charged) pop the red glad hand off by hand and see if the spring brakes instantly set in emergency mode. If not then the trailer control valve under the trailer at its air tank is bad. Most likely the quick release side of valve.

I was thinking this at first too because I have a few of them in service but I looked up the trailer brand he has and I don’t think they would be spring brake exempt. I could be wrong, however.

Fair enough, we had one of our stretch trailers that was newer set up that way (97-2005?) Wether it was stock and exempt because it had special useage or it just got converted on someones whim i never knew, but i was pulling 80-100 foot crane beams on an old truck and dot never bothered with me. Prefered the other trailers most of the time, but it was much easier to get rolling even if it had sat 3 months and was frozen outside :p

Pole trailers and lowbeds don't need to have spring brakes IIRC.
