If it’s a 48ft trailer it’s not illegal in CA. 48ft and under don’t have to meet the KPRA requirements.

    He's perfectly legal for California.

Then why did I get a ticket for +250 on the trailer (53')? I was able to adjust it out by sliding the axles back 1 slot (about 4") and was good on the reweigh. I didn't get to a CAT scale before a DOT one on that load.

Loads outside California do exist, but are rare for me as I am from California and my company is as well. I am headed there Monday and will be heading right back out after I deliver and reload.

But you replied to the guy’s post and said he was illegal in CA, and he’s not because he pulls a spread. So I replied to you.

For the record, I didn't say he was illegal, just trying to understand why he wasn't. I have yet to pull a spread axle, and I would be illegal with those numbers on my setup in California (and any other state with the 40' KPRA rule).

This is a case of my only being responsible for what I said, not what was understood.

A 10 foot spread axle can haul 40k.

You had a closed axle tandem. 34k.

I too like to live dangerously. Picture of my old truck but my 5th wheel rarely leaves being centered over the rear axle. Rides just fine and I’ve never had problems steering with 9k on the front end.

I think what i like least about it being THAT far back is where the handle is in relation to the drive tires
But if it works for you, truck on.

True. That’s less of an issue on my current truck because I have taller stands now. The best part about keeping the fifth wheel so far back, I pull mostly double drops and stretch flats with 18”-24” kingpin depths. I can stand between the drives and disconnect my air lines. 25FBC43C-C104-4074-8B7C-8D000A7D06D6.jpeg
