Then say it's all fictional.
Locals. They see lotsa things you otr guys claim is impossible. -
I’d definitely run a pre emission truck until they get banned by the democrats nationwide like they did in California .
I’d go back a few more years and get a pre computer truck with mechanical injection.Last edited: Apr 6, 2021

It’s a constant battle, and everyone has their opinion. Some stronger then others. All of my equipment is from the mid 80’s, it’s my opinion that those models and years fit my driving and ownership styles best. I recognize that it is not for everyone, but for myself and a select group of others, “Its The Only Way To Fly.”

Pre emissions is the only way to go until its banned Federally in my honest opinion. Whether that is electronic or mechanical , your choice.
I agree with some of the above points regarding 20-25 year old wiring and cabs falling apart but If you are mechanically inclined and dont mind the challenge that would be the route I take.
In a perfect scenario I would go for a nice glider but be prepared to open the wallet wide.Hawk6275, kuzima93, KullenTrucking and 3 others Thank this. -
Being that you can't buy new gliders anymore and a used no name Freightliner glider is still going to fetch $60-70 thousand with 400-500,000 on it rebuilding a old truck is a affordable alternative. .
The challenge is finding one that you can live with and is not beat to death , rusted and overpriced because it's pre emission
I can buy into the buy new with extended warranty and sell or trade at 500 thousand but what if you get that one lemon that sits at the dealership over and over .?
I've been there with a daily driver I was making my living with back in the day.
Yea you will have 60-80 grand into redoing it and a bunch of your labor but in the end you have something that should be problem free for many years, and if some problem does develop you will not only know how to repair it but know what the problem is and what may be the cause of it.
Being I'm very mechanical , having a new truck with a possible breakdown and being at the Mercy of some 25 year old kid fresh out of diesel school working at the dealership tearing into it would give me nightmares.kuzima93, singlescrewshaker and lester Thank this. -
Pre-emissions are overvalued. I feel like these lots add $10,000 to the price just because they put “ELD exempt” in the description. I’m not going to pay $50-70K for a 30 year old rust bucket painted over with black spray paint to make someone a quick buck. And when I was searching for a truck I couldn’t find an O/O selling for a reasonable price either.
The problem with emissions trucks is that nobody is willing to understand them. They just want to believe they’re all bad because of the early failures they had simply because people don’t understand them and drive/operate them like they are a pre emissions truck. And most shops don’t even have the equipment necessary to service emissions because they’re so #### expensive, so they just tell you it needs to be replaced. Easy enough for them, huge profit margins, and don’t have to invest in six figure DPF cleaning equipment, testing, etc.
In actually reality, you shouldn’t buy a truck you don’t understand. If you drove nothing but Cascadias your entire career then there’s nothing wrong with buying a Cascadia as your first truck. Don’t surround yourself with people who judge other people, especially on things like what truck they drive. Life is too short to be shallow.
Having a trustworthy shop is more important than the truck you choose to buy regardless in my opinion.KullenTrucking, drivinhome, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this.
