Hi there
I’m driving since 2 years 95% local 53ft with sleeper. 3-6 stops a day and touching freight. 50k pounds a week. im looking to change to haul petroleum local. They pay well like my job I have now. I’m just wondering. It’s hauling petroleum stressful? Is it hard to learn? Heavy lifting?
thanks

The tradeoff to all of that is having to follow strict loading and unloading procedures. It can be deadly or costly if you make a mistake.
There’s no real heavy lifting. At the loading point (rack) you’ll swing large loading arms and affix them to your tank for loading. At the receiving end you’ll be handling hoses and tight fills.bentstrider83, austinmike, ruckusftlc and 1 other person Thank this. -

Learning the loading/unloading process is stressful. Loading is stressful when you’re on your own at first. Unloading gasoline is a little stressful at first. Diesel is easy. Certain racks are much easier than others.

Stressful no.... Detailed yes very detailed.
It’s repetition. Load the same way and unload the same way. Once you got a process and backstops it’s easy. The detailed part is loading the correct contract every time and the correct amount. Making sure you actually verify that the load arm is connected to the compartment you want before you autopilot a yes. Making sure you put the correct compartments in the the right tanks at the right stations. It’s not hard just detailed.
You have to be a proactive enforcer at stations. People are stupid and they will say “oh my bad dude I didn’t see the gas truck” as they smoke a cigarette walking towards it or by the vapor vents. Some people respond to a simple request to put it out... some people you have to yell at...You’ll have to block off entire sections of the parking lot to prevent people from driving in your area.. and you’ll have to wait for some people to take 45 mins to play their lottery and go grocery shopping cause they parked on your fills... unless you got gravy runs like Meijers or krogers sams club or Costco’s...
Another stressor could be if your paid by the load..91B20H8 Thanks this. -
As others said, it’s very detailed and you do it right the first time, because there may not be a second time. You don’t get in a hurry.

Tanker work isn't hard but it's very unforgiving. If you have a spill or a mix you'll have a lot of people wanting answers and you better have them.
If you have an accident you'll have even more people second guessing every move you made.
Stay focused, take that extra minute or two to do your job right, and ask lots of questions if you're in doubt about anything.HiramKingWilliams, RockinChair and meechyaboy Thank this. -
You spend a lot of time outside, in the weather.........
Dennixx and meechyaboy Thank this.
