TA Country Prides, and truck stop prefrences.

The Covid shut down probably gave the data to prove the restaurants were a money loser.

Probably a known fact inside TA management for sometime. But there was probably political resistance to closing them ... The restaurants were someone's corporate fiefdom. They justified keeping them as loss leader bringing in other business.

Covid gave them the data, restaurant or no restaurant, the rest of the business isn't impacted.

 

I agree with MysticHZ. And you're going to see that same corporate mentality in many other places. Covid shutdowns gave big business the excuses and data they've needed to cut a lot of fat. Why sell fountain drinks at $0.89 a cup when you can sell a bottle for $2.19? Why hire 2 janitors when 1 will do? Why provide bathrooms when people can go somewhere else?

 

Much the same can be said for healthy, wholesome food. The mega truckstops could care less if drivers were dying in their parking lots from heart disease or diabetic attacks. Healthy food doesn't bring in the money that fried garbage does.

A pathetic cup of grapes, $5

 

I doubt they'll even open them back up. Sucks cause ta/petro is where I get my massive fuel discount

 

Back in the day TA use to have fork in the road. Probably the best thing that was ever around. All you can eat of the same thing..
so these little chains keep coming and going. Well see what’s next when country pride is gone. Unlesss they open

 

The PA Turnpike took the covid excuse and got rid of all of the toll takers.

And then promptly raised the toll rates.

Businesses used it as an excuse to cut. The government did the opposite...

 

Because the soda fountain is a high-profit area due to low cost.

 

Pardon me, good driver, but what was "Fork in the Road"? Was it their restaurant chain before Country Pride? I also remember T/A had Buckhorn restaurants that they inherited from buying out Travel Port.
