I’m wanting to get into hauling a tandem axle rgn here soon, but I’m a bit confused on how much weight I can haul. I know with a tandem axle rgn I can’t go more than 80 gross, but what about if I have a 6 axle set up (3 on the trailer 3 on the truck)? How much can I gross at that point? May be a dumb question sorry.

Depends on the state and almost every state is different. Then some states you can run the interstate and others you can't. Permits, divisible loads, lots of factors.
Get your road atlas out and study the weights and measures chartscke, singlescrewshaker, Roberts450 and 1 other person Thank this. -
In the right jurisdiction, you can permit a 5 axle to 112k gross, maybe more. Assuming a heavy spec tandem tractor with 20k steer, 46k rears.. Now actually being able to get the load to scale out like that is a whole different animal..
If you just have a run of the mill road tractor, 12k steer & 40k rears, you could permit to~97k-98k gross assuming the jurisdictions you travel allow 45k or 46k on the wagon tandem.. -

With a tri axle trailer and a normal otr truck, carrying a bus, gross weight under 80,000 lbs. will permits be needed for the tri axle portion of the trailer for weight. The combo will not scale as a proper 12-34-34.

No, most states you can have 42k on the 3 axle group.
