Oversized Question

Due to curfews and restrictions, OD freight doesn't make sense for a team. Most of the freight that can be permitted for continuous movement, doesn't pay much more than legal freight.

 

Never see an oversize run at night. Except in a few cases, like windmill parts, most oversize is local stuff.

 

10 years ago, most places wouldn’t allow nights and weekends. Now, quite a few allow for the smaller loads to run at night. The really crazy thing is the number of places that will require a night move through a metro area with a superload.

 

Tons of OSOW coming out of Laredo. The problem is that the rates aren’t even a quarter of what they used to be.

 

that is not the case - I move exclusively oversize overweight loads and nearly all of them go at least 1500 miles .....

 

The one I'm on now is just shy of 3,000 mi.

You never really understand how the US really is made up of many different states , until you run oversize overweight,

you can run after dark in TN , some states are 30 mins before sunrise and some states are 30 min after sunrise.

some states you can buy a blanket permit and drive anywhere you want .

Some states you can’t cross any bridge that’s not on the designated route , you can’t exit and cross the interstate , you have to use the truck stops on the right side of the road.

Every major town has a curfew, and the states will route you all over the place to avoid a construction zone.

I know a couple of OSOW companies that run teams, the extra guy is a night watchman, to keep an eye on the cargo at night while the driver is sleeping, if it’s expensive or sensitive cargo.
