...AND...I'm sure they know people in DC, the FMCSA, and other LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL COURTS AND AGENCIES that control the laws and work in their favor to SCREW US ROYALLY. So don't think for a second you can fight their political power ALONE with some David and Goliath ####.
    No offense.

They've done it to NUMEROUS others before you. A word of advice to anyone going into ANY of these companies. Especially student drivers!! We gotta deal with em, just don't think about doin it forever, but don't let them ruin you career before it gets started (or started again). Myself included.

I went to Swift for their orientation on a Sunday. Went thru their WHOLE orientation, got the completion certificate on Friday, was sent home and told I would be put in a truck the following Monday.

Some of the drivers who needed driver trainers were picked up that day or over the weekend. I had ofer 6mos exp so I was told I just needed a truck. I CALLED THEM on Wednesday cuz I never got a call on Monday...or Tuesday.

Come to find out - after two different people said I couldn't be hired and they couldn't tell me why - that I was turned down cuz of my record!

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE SCREEN ME BEFORE I FINISHED ORIENTATION?! OR BETTER YET, BEFORE I CAME BY BUS FROM JERSEY TO PA AND WASTE 5 DAYS?!

So Swift Is MY choice for Worst Company on the list I KNOW ABOUT. Then CRE, then it's a toss up between Werner and Covenant. USA Truck seems pretty crappy too.

It's better for your credit to be screwed up than to be forced to work for someone you hate...in my opinion, anyway, because I've always lived my life in the philosophy that credit should be used sparingly if at all.

NEVER do something that will screw up your credit!

Credit is the absolute most important thing to a person as far as their finances.

You can't get anything without good credit. If you have bad credit, then you know what I am talking about.

I have great credit... so even though I don't have much money, I can still get things if I need them.

Yeah, I guess you can say you don't and will never need credit... That is if you have plenty of cash laying around, and have a 100% guarantee that you will never run low enough that you may have to finance something. There is no such thing as a guarantee like that though... especially in today's world economy.

Not only that, but there are all types of things other than financing something that people check your credit for: renting apartments, renting cars, when you apply for certain jobs, getting service contracts like cable, utilities, cell phones, emergency medical bills, etc. In what world do you live in where your credit is not important?

What's worth more: your pride or your credit? Easy answer. Suck it up and hang tough... you will be much better off in the long run.

    Good luck!

So many to list .....such little time....
If they have an training program and if they have an fleece program then those companies are the ones to stay away from .....unless you need to get your cdl..... If you are experienced in the trucking field there is no reason in the world to be with an training company!

I'm not touting the company line. My hubby has an OSHA suit against Swift. All I'm saying is be very careful what you do because they HAVE the clout to destroy you and they will if you cross them. My hubby was happy with Swift (he was an o/o) until this incident and they all but destroyed his ability to get a job with any reputable trucking company. My hubby worked for Swift off and on since 1996. So I guess you can say that no driver is bullet-proof in this industry.

Swift thinks like a lot of mega carriers, they think every driver is just a dumb truck driver and they can walk all over you. I'm in your court, not Swift's.

But they will destroy your credit if you don't pay them back. If you don't use any credit or have bad credit it's a moot point. This was the point I was trying to make.

I'm also sorry for your situation. You are in a very long line of drivers that Swift discards for whatever reason. Just search the internet to find out how many they've screwed, it's an eye opener. Good luck in finding a good job and I mean this sincerely.

It's kind of sad the way that these Big companies take advantage of the "small man".I used to wonder why Unions were important, but this type of stuff makes me think about that and I think that I know the REAL reason, now(ha,ha).I remember-a few years ago- a Union dispute shut down the port in California and I heard that there were ships just backed up as far as the eye could see. Finally the Companies had no choice but to suck it up and go to the tables to work out the problem.A short time ago,Swift fired some drivers for "Union activity".I guess that you need to do an search on the internet because I can not post that link here-right(if I am wrong I will post that).
It seems like there is a big need for some way to protect all of us against these companies like Swift-It just doesn't seem very American, the way this company can treat us-and just force you to "take it" or they fire you.
There was(is?) a great video on the Swift site that talked about what a great company they are and how the owner was proud of,and really cared about the drivers-Maybe HE does, but the Douchebags that he hires in manangement don't care too much.I would love to see them managers taken down and treated the same way that they treat the drivers...sure might make them think a bit-Kind of Like the Scrooge Story(ha,ha). Thanks

Companies don't have to report how many of their trucks are sitting around, but they do report projected lost income for those units sitting. The equipment depreciation formulas are the same if they're sitting or moving.

Almost every company listed by posters are the large otr carriers. It seems to me that those companies should be avoided. I don't really think it is that hard of a concept. Is it? Find yourself a company that fits your needs, provides good benefits and provides good time at home. You need to do research. Nobody said it was going to be easy. Just stay away from the big otr companies.

Do you include Schneider in the list of big OTR companies to stay away from?
