PPPR, you seem to be a mechanically knowledgeable guy, and according to this thread, you gotta be a pretty good feller in my book.. So don't take my post the wrong way, I'm not second guessing, just trying to help Pharm's post count mostly!!

I know hippo probably isn't looking to spend any more than necessary to get back rollin right now, but I'd lose the super10 and junk that trans cooler too for a plain old air cooled one.. A drop of coolant or water going through a bearing is all it takes, as I'm sure you already knew, just didn't want to point it out in your last post lol..
I wouldn't think that a Super10 would run all that hot anyway.. I've always ran RTOO14613's, they'll get hot in the summertime if you stay in the big hole to long while loaded heavy, as in over 300 degrees hot.. Mounting the transmisssion cooler between the ataac and the radiator will cure that, or anywhere besides under the truck and full of dirt, grease, roadkill, beingmounted in the airstream really helps lol.. Fuller says not to worry unless its over 300 degrees on 50wt synthetic motor oil, but I prefer Mystik gear oil and staying under 250 degrees myself..
Just my opinion, but Super10's are for fleet trucks. More synchronized shifts might be less work for the driver, but it creates more work for the transmission, as in more wearable parts "synchronizers and splitters".. In a way sorta like using the clutch for changing gers after you get started.. :biggrin_25521:
They just won't hold up or last like a 13 or 15 speed, especially in more severe applications such as a dump truck, hopper, or any real work truck.. Super10's and automatics are for hauling tater chips and trading it in when the warranty expires.. Certain model 18speeds don't have the best reputation either..

I ruined a good 15speed a few years ago, learned a lesson the hard way.. When checking the oil in a transmission, make sure you're parked level and the oil should be kept at spill level with the filler hole.. One inch down is one gallon, and most of them only hold about 4 when full.. Running it where you can touch it with you're fingertip ultimately results in the higher gears teeth chipping away.. Just a little tip for anyone that didn't know..
Also, if you're getting a reman from Eaton and know someone in the exchange process, cores don't have to be like for like, just need to be complete and close to the same core value to turn it in..

I haven't got the slightest clue what a super10 core even is, but Pharm looks like a 15speed or 8LL guy to me.. Or a Mack 6 speed would work real well lmao :biggrin_25523: Cheap around here too, but then you would have bellhousing issues.. Anything with a slow hole reverse lol.. :biggrin_2552:
What rearend ratio does the GWH have? Maybe they're Eaton as well..

One more thing for you PPPR if hippo doesn't already know, explaining power dividers and how they work and when to use it or not might prevent another disaster or premature catastrophe, thread neglect and such from happening more often than is absolutely necessary nowadays.. It's dog eat dog in the trucking buisness anymore.. Starting to wonder whether or not a hippo can even eat a dog now lol.. :biggrin_25523:

I agree completely... My current truck has a 18 speed trans in it and it came new with a water cooled trans cooler, the first thing I did when I bought it was junk the cooler and install a air cooled trans cooler. Transmission has never run hotter than 210 degrees. I change both rears and trans fluid every year.... seems a little excessive but, I've never (in over 30 yrs) have had a trans or rear end failure.

I think in the long run Rob would be better off financially and service wise with a straight 10 speed but, at this time he just doesn't have the extra funds to do it. For his use a "C" ratio trans would do him better due to gear spaceing in a "C" versus a "B" ratio.

Thank you for your comments 359kool.

What's the price point that would make it cheaper to swap to a straight ten, 13, 15 etc?

I can make some calls and ask around a few other sites.

I'm responding to this here but you really need a thread of your own .
You obviously don't know enough to even attempt to be an O/O .
"get my own truck, insure.,Authority then sign on and lease myself to a fleet company as an o/o. " If you plan on leasing on with a company you don't need your own authority . You run on theirs . Do NOT get into trucking if you need to feed your family . Hundreds of O/O's have lost their trucks or just lost them . Mercer alone let over 200 O/O's go . I have O/O friends that are very smart businessmen with good reputations for service . Some of them consider themselves lucky if they break even at the end of the month . The odds of failure are too great for somebody providing for a family to risk any money .
Yes , there are O/O members here doing well . But try to find an O/O here that started within the last year an made it . Lease/purchasers are NOT O/O's . They will never own the truck . At the end of the lease (if they make it that far ) they will have to lease another truck .
