"Your employment with the company is AT WILL, which means the employment relationship between you and the company can be terminated at any time, for any reason, with or without notice, by either party."

All this talk about "being a man, having a pair, being moral, being respectful" is just BS window dressing.

These are outmoded concepts in American Corporate Culture these days.

The handbook I was given when I started this job contains the clause quoted above.

The TM asked me for the courtesy of two weeks notice if I felt the need to quit.

I looked him in the eye, shook his hand, and said I would.

If the Main Office gets rid of my TM and replaces him with some pencil neck with an English degree and a Logistics Management certificate who thinks he's gonna come in and micromanage me, then I'll clean out my truck and quit on the spot, too. My deal was with the previous TM, not him.

I might have to send a text if the line of quitting drivers extends out the door and into the parking lot.

The "he-men with balls" can wait in line to tell that kid off and quit to his face.

I got things to do. I gotta beat the crowd to run next door to apply for another job.....

No man, don’t send a text. If you’re going to be a “no baller”, be the BEST “no baller”. Go all the way with it. Don’t you want to be the best?

Sure, I want to be "the best".

But do I have the "tools and the talent"?:p

Btw, I’m the BEST “no baller” when it comes to riding a bull. I have a friend that did that for living when were young. He tried to get me to do it once. I said “HELL NO!!!”. He says “chicken ####”. Me? I said “You’re #### right I am!”. Lol

Key thing here is this is a local company im sure basically the drivers are no different than dock workers. If someone calls in someone else has to pick up the work. In long haul this isn't even a thing you could be at a company for 10 years and not even know there is a 15 year driver at the same company that lives in the same town as you.

I see your point but with the megas Ive heard of drivers giving notice and then the dispatcher spitefully keeping the driver out or routing him to a terminal a thousand miles from home.

I quit 3 megas without notice but I did give a two week notice to the small 15 truck company I was working for because I knew my departure would put em' in a bind.

Am I the only one that thinks it’s weird how the OP has had many different threads over the years complaining about his boss doing this or that and how he didn’t like this truck or that truck.....and now someone else got to the point that they had had enough, for whatever their reason was, and suddenly this is the best place to work and he can’t imagine why someone would quit without notice?

I’ve done it both ways, it totally depends on the company and my supervisors and how they treat me.

My last two tanker jobs were for good size companies but at small terminals. Under 30 trucks, O/O and company combined. My terminal managers and dispatch were great. So the first I gave two weeks notice and was told come back anytime. The last one I went out on disability and never went back. but they were ready to take me back when I got better. I just got too used to not working and retired.
So give notice or not? I'd say it depends on your situation and relationship with the company. A company that lies and cheats, that won't have your back I wouldn't give notice but I wouldn't quit until after I had the last paycheck in the bank.
