Want to talk about trucking industries? My husband found out 3/8/21 that he has stage 2 B-cell Non Hodgins Lymphoma..He has a mass that started out in his stomach area as huge as a small watermelon. He is now on strong chemotherpy and I can tell you as his wife I never dreamed he would get fired from his job because he got cancer,,,,Trying to get disability is like trying to climb a ladder to the moon..Disability will let him know in December if he qualifies..unemployment,well,he has to be able to take a job when offered or he loses his $247 a week (IF found qualified) How will we pay our bills? Buy food? That's the question of our lives right now......I am his caregiver and I can tell you this isn't easy by no means ..People say do this do that..Everything takes TIME ...I think it's pretty sorry that a man or woman lose their livelyhood because they get cancer and a company isn't willing to help them out until they are cured,or get disability started
My name is Connie Noel and I along with my husband are at a loss at this time on what this world has become

So sorry for your situation if its true. These types of threads pop up often. BEfore this goes any further, my question to you is, DID YOU CONTACT LAWYER? IF so, What did he/she say?
IF not, Why did you not?

You signed up to post this for a reason so i assume its just advice.

Company disability insurance should kick in as soon as person is no longer able to work. Doctor will sign off on that in a heartbeat.

i have personally known people to have gone on a short medical leave for an operation, and got fired. (me, when i had carpal tunnel, back in the mid 1990's) ...!!!

i have personally known people to get hurt on the job, take a week or 2 off, and get fired from the job

many employers see the sick, in this case cancer, as an employee that'll be costly to keep on the payroll, just for the insurance.

your husband is (to some employers) damaged goods, that can never return to a normal work assignment.

he will need to get onto Medicaid ASAP. there are state agencies that can help you, you just have to look for the places that can get him on Medicaid. you can even try calling Medicaid yourself. sometimes, the hospitals have a patient manager, that person can help you.

i would HIGHLY suggest a lawyer that specializes in personal injury, workman's comp, and Medicare/Medicaid. many times, they get paid by the agency, or state, so NO out of pocket monies.

sometimes, a nominal fee is charged.

that malarkey about waiting till December is a huge BS thing to say...

hit the phones Monday morning....plan on being on hold, for a long time......

    best of luck

If he's a military veteran, maybe get some help at the VA hospital.

Assuming he wasn't working for a 1099 illegally and was actually covered by some sort of disability insurance.

a lawyer can cut thru the red tape, and get him on assistance ASAP.

if you never been hurt at work, or in a car crash, or had anyone file a lawsuit against you, then you lived a sheltered life.

But this is none of that. This is a non work related illness. That said, yes a lawyer may help with ssd benefits.

It sure how to respond but here goes. Have a little sympathy. I’m sure they are going through some tough times right now and all they were asking for is help.
Maybe offer some helpful info or a little sympathy. Just thinking out loud.
