Hey all, just got my CDL a few months ago. Started out in food service, didn’t mind the hard work but trying to learn all the products and digging thru pallets wasn’t for me. Just got an interview for biodiesel trucking. Does anyone have any experience with this? I’m trying to get as much info as I can about this. My other option would be to move back to the states and do OTR. Any advice would be appreciated.

Where will you live in the states; this information helps us give you leads on jobs.
How much total experience do you have?
    Any endorsements?

I have 3 months experience. No endorsements yet because I didn’t need any for food service. If I was to take the biodiesel job, then I would need to go get the tanker endorsement. Just not sure yet if biodiesel is what I want to do. I currently live in Hawaii.

Bio-diesel in Hawaii or OTR in the states?
There's also fuel jobs in the states if you don't want OTR, such as fleet fueling, depending on where you live.

I would rather stay in Hawaii for now, that is where the biodiesel job is. That’s why I was wondering if anybody had any experience with that type of job. If I decide not to do biodiesel, then I would have to consider going to the states for OTR. There’s not a lot options for local drivers in Hawaii without at least 1 year experience other then food service.

    NavigatorWife and Chinatown Thank this.

Food service is a tough gig.....especially for a rookie! I don't blame you. I tried beverage delivery a few years ago. Coca Cola.......60-70 different products. Hated it......Darn near killed me....being 57 years old didn't help.lol I acquired a whole new appreciation for OTR. There are guys/gals that figure it out and thrive....most, including me, can't. That is why the pay is so good with most of those Companies. Good luck in your new endeavor

I am just a dumb old Howlie on the mainland. I know the COL in Hawaii is substantially higher there than over "here". How does the pay differ?

OMG I wish! Seems like paradise to us who have never been there!
