I know this is an old thread but I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't have air slider tandems. I don't think I've pulled a handle on a trailer to slide any tandems in 10 years or longer. That's darn near flatbedding. I'd just rather push or pull the air button it's so much easier that way. That's the doorslammer way. Easy, lazy. It can be aggravating if you forget to set the trailer brakes and have to walk an extra trip to the cab though.

Can you give me a specific part make and number. I can't find anyone that knows anything about this.

No need for big expenses. A bungee cord does the same. I hook it up to the cross members. It doesn't release the pins entirely but gets the loose enough to pull up the handle after I rocked the truck.

When the self driving trucks come along, they will have auto axle adjusting software that will calculate the required axle spacing and do it automatically.

I normally drive reefer trailers with the pneumatic pins. I have to go back to the tandems to either push or pull the button, depending on which type that trailer has. I have learned that I don't have to go back to release the pins back into the rail, I learned I just have to turn the trailer brakes back off, putting air into the system automatically flips that switch. Then after about 30 seconds, pull the brake back on and either edge forward or reverse for the pins to pop into the holes. That's handy for backing into a dock when I simply have to slide them all the way back. Get out and pull (or push) the button. Go back to cab, pull forward as far as it let's me. Release the trailers brakes again for 30 seconds or so, apply them again. Edge back till the pins pop in, release the brakes and back into the dock. When I'm done and go back to chock the wheels I just check the pins are properly engaged. It's easier than it sounds and both speeds up and simplifies the process.
