Do I need a tanker endorsement to tow away a empty tanker?

Pretty sure it depends on if it's that type of unit that needs to be placarded all the time or if when empty it runs no placards

    MG3 Thanks this.

Are you working for a towing company? If you are then no you do not need the endorsement.

I would say yes but just a guess.
Otherwise anyone who was without a tank endorsement would be legal half the time, or when empty anyhow.

Me having a tanker endorsement I don’t believe a empty washed food grade tanker would be a problem .

Now a tanker that is unwashed and has a history of hauling plac carded materials is a whole different story .

Be safe about it, and proactive.
15 bucks and a test at the dmv gets you the tank endorsement.
Spend the hour to do it, and cover your behind.
