Unlike some would have you believe, sometimes you can't avoid a traffic jam.

i never checked the traffic conditions before leaving. that always changes. instead, i'd tune in the AM radio for the local traffic reports, and find a "go around"

weather was my only concern, it's snowing..??? i'd call out sick, or dead.

but there are only so many times, one can be calling out....dead.

I do the same thing, google is the best all around for just about everything. I'm taking a gander here, and it looks like no serious traffic to get to St. James! Google is lovely for trip planning. Screenshot_20210505-143001_Maps.jpg

Agreed, just double and triple check any detours Google suggests. Not just for truck legality but for actual time saved. Anything less than 15 mins saved is not worth the hassle and as that time is based on a car, a much slower moving truck won't save as much time as they suggest.

Always check Google maps, but be very careful about the detours it gives you. Two days ago there was an accident on I-75S a bit outside Detroit and the delay was 45 minutes. I seen it before hand and took the exit before.

Got off and there's a sign that said (trucks more than 3 axles no left turn). No problem I made a right and planned on taking the road that ran parallel to it. Got to the next light and saw( Trucks over 3 axles no right turn).

Long story short, ended up taking a no truck route for 6 miles and got back onto the highway. I did save about half an hour. But at what risk?

Thats why I always used my Road Atlas. You can see what is truck route. Its old, outdated technology but its accurate and no batteries required although the print is not as clear as it once was...

Google maps. You have wisdom beyond your years young man.

Always check before you jump on the highway.

yeah, what’s the lyrics to “hillbilly truck driving man?” By Bill Kirchen

the seats are getting thinner and
The maps are gettin harder to read

the eats I get for dinner is a lot of stuff I don’t need

but there’s no way of letting go
Cause it’s the only way of life I know

kirchen has a lot of good trucking songs on his Dieselbilly Road Trip and Tied to the Wheel albums .
You old timers will remember him as the guitarist from the Hot Rod Lincoln song.
