I'd rather do NYC over Philly for that reason. Philly is a cluster F

The Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) was definitely there back then

Let's assume that U dropped those Oats at Liberty Bell or Keystone Race Track. U were close to Rt 1 which would have taken U down to 76 and then 76 down to the South Philly Truckstop

Well that is a consideration although I have to say the route from 309 to 463 to 611 to the turnpike rolls pretty well I don't mind going that way. There are lights and there are towns that you go through but most of that is multi-lane Highway and although it does take longer it's really not a bad way to go. When going north up 33 to 81 it's all highway there are mountains but on the turnpike there's a lot of mountains also.

I would rather come down 309 than take the turnpike and spend $43.40 to go from Lehigh Valley to New Jersey. Multiply that over however many times a week and get a yearly number and it's staggering. I don't think that any additional fuel used or wear would offset that. And if I don't find anything coming out of New Jersey then I have to pay the almost $40 toll plus deadhead in addition to that. That really drops your net figure.

I try to keep those expenses down the best way that I can because it really adds up.

But I'm still curious if anyone has a good shortcut from Kutztown or breiningsville to get back to 422 around Oaks or Trooper headed towards 76.

Or if anyone has another way to cut over from 309 to the Mount Holly or Burlington areas without the turnpike.

Lol. I do it everyday. It really is that crazy. Not to mention, things change by the minute- so you always have to have a backup plan. When the local police throw up a detour they’re NOT planning it out with trucks in mind. Ughhh

You know at one time I used to go to New York City every day. I really knew the city well. It's been so many years I barely remember anything beyond the BQE and the LIE. And I used to go to Queens a lot and JFK.

I have no desire whatsoever to do any of that with my own truck. Even what @Brettj3876 does going into North Jersey I have no desire to do it with my own truck.

Yet I grew up near Philly and I spent a lot of time there and that doesn't really bother me. But whenever there is a Philly load, I always ask where it is. There are some parts of Philadelphia I will not go into.

But come on guys! There has to be somebody that has some super-secret shortcuts from Breinigsville or Kutztown to cut back over to 422 near Oaks or Trooper!

222 to 422 and across. Or drop down to 61 to 222 to 422. Honestly i’d run 78-31-95-295 down to Mt Holly.

From Breinigsville or Kutztown 222 out to 422 is a pretty big loop around to go back toward Philadelphia.

78 might be okay to go back to Mount Holly. Never tried it that way. But 78 really has some Giant mountains.

Lol some days it's like pulling your hair out. I get lucky most of the time and have an early apt so i beat the traffic and get a nap in. The one positive about the pandemic is way less traffic. Pre covid when we were doing Bayonne almost daily the toll booths at the 95/78 interchange just before the bridge used to be backed up almost half a mile some days. Now i can breeze right through at 8am and not even get hung up. It's weird, now I run into more traffic heading home than I do going down
