You're preachin' to the choir. It's been my experience that the smaller companies are the better way to go, and that's the advice I give to others. Not always easy to get on with, but well worth the effort when you do. Just reading your description of the smaller company you're with is just confirming my opinion. I gotta tell you, with every new post of your's that I read I become more and more impressed -- favorably. Maybe because you remind me of myself and the things I did to get where I wanted to be. I too put my all into it and tried to be at least one step ahead.

I predict a bright future for you in the truckin' industry, ---- or ANYthing you set your mind to do. Your excellent attitude will carry you far, and I think whomever hires you is wise.

NopE, I don't think your success is a fluke. Not by a long shot.
AND, I think anyone wanting to enter the truckin' industry would benefit their chances by readin' your posts and following the path you've chosen.

Here at The Truckers Report, we pride ourselves in providing good, accurate information to those seeking same. The information, suggestions and advice you're providing, I think, should be a must read for such folks as well as those who've been driving awhile and want to move up.
I can't begin to express how refreshing it is for me to just read your posts. So far, they haven't disappointed me at all, and I see no reason to think any of your posts will ever do that.

Those who expect a truckin' school to teach them EVERYthing will surely learn less that a self starter will.

Aftershock... The reason I called that guy a fool was because Baack would slap my typing fingers and wash my mouth out if I had typed the real words to describe him.
In thinking back on the entire situation, the only reason the school got so involved with it was because there were probably too many witnesses to the "event". They were probably worried about sexual harrassment and a possible law suit.

Just think of everything you need to know to safely operate a truck AND get the loads delivered. I only learned enough to pass the NYS road test. Shift, turn, parallel park.

 

Yes!.........And , No. For a brand new driver that hasn't been properly taught how to do the job....

He/She/ It ought to just park it.

For a driver that knows how to handle the conditions....No! Those of us that know how can do what we think the job requires to get it done!

I sell a service....Sometimes that service requires that I run in whatever weather I encounter to get the freight there on time. I don't call customers to tell them why I won't be on time, I just get the freight there on time...That's the point of what we do.

I run a lot in the west, Lot's of snow, Lot's of mountains...If I decided to shut down every time a little snow fell, I'd be out of business! In my many years in this business there have been very few times that I've ever had to call a customer and tell them I'd be late for a delivery.

C.R. England, Werner, Swift, Covenant, JB Hunt, Schneider, Central Refrigerated, TMC To name a few...These are some of the worst though.

 

When I went to a cdl training school they had fairly small classes about 12 per class with 3 rigs.. one 48 ft flatbed spread axle, 48' van, and a 53' van. I wished they had let us drive with the spread axle down and went over strapping and tarping with the guys interested in flatbedding and they refused to let us back up to some actuall docks rather than the cones setup.
