It absolutely changed me. I went from running 5 miles per day and eating the healthiest of food to sitting on my butt all day and eating Pilot food.

It is taking a toll on my physical health, but refreshing my soul. There is nothing like running the miles to clear the mind. Love it.

In almost 7 years not really, no. Never been OTR pretty much just local besides 2 years in the oilfield staying in motels nightly. So i can't really comment on the lifestyle part other than its 5 days in it and 2 under it Lol

    Thanks, buddyd

    Yeah, scratch the 'appreciated' thought.
Let's change that to Job Satisfaction.
Most teachers will tell you that job satisfaction is pretty low. You generally never leave the classroom each day with a sense of accomplishment; there is something always left undone or something you could've done better. Most administrators will tell you that (ugh!).
I could go on and on about how public education has changed, but I doubt there's enough room (or interest) to put it on this thread.
My idea is that in trucking the sense of accomplishment of making deliveries on time and safely would be very satisfying. Having worked in a couple of loading docks in college gave me that. Seeing that truck drive off with the correctly loaded trailer gave a good sense of pride.

    MACK E-6, T.Rucker and nredfor88 Thank this.

As an owner operator, trucking is your BUSINESS. It was my business as a company driver, yes, but many company drivers have this idea that if they own the truck, they can do whatever they want and still make money. Untrue.

You will notice that many in the industry think that being fat smelly and stupid makes for a decent driver. Stupidity begins in the mid teens, but it’s easier to grow out of for the simple reason that the brain is still used to learning. Once learning ends, stupid becomes permanent. Remember the definition of insanity? Stupid would be watching the insanity and being completely unable to learn from what was observed.

If used properly, trucking is a great way to meditate, to better the individual. How so? Every single day, surrounded by Braindeads, and people who are out to push your buttons.lose your cool, drive along hour after hour, and replay the scene in your mind and figure out exactly where you “lost it.” If you cannot learn from what was experienced, what does that mean?

Yeah, OTR is what I wanna do. Obviously the first year is gonna make or break me, but I believe I have the personality and understanding wife for it. After my first year when I become more marketable, I'd like to do food-grade tanker. Hope I can get a gig of four-days on three-days off. That would be perfect.

Now THIS is what I had in mind. Deep thoughts, contemplative, and cerebral.

thanks, Triple6. Can you say more?
