It all depends on the amount of miles you run. If you run under 80k miles a year the lease in the better option than buying. If you do over 80k buying is the better option but only if you pay it off in 3 years.
Keep in mind.. a lease is 100% tax wright off. Buying it takes 5 years to fully depreciate and even then you can't do it 100%. Now you know #### well if you buy and do over 80k miles a year you will not be running that truck in 5 years meaning you can never fully write it off and you will have replaced something major in that time frame maybe twice. Not to mention front end rebuild at least once, brakes several times, many, many sets of tires..
And.. you aren't going to want to idle a DPF truck overnight to sleep in it if you plan to keep it.. A lease, who cares..
I did the numbers and the lease is the better option if you stick to under 80k miles. That's sort of the tipping point if you do over 80k it becomes more favorable to buy.
For myself, the insurance policy I was gonna have to buy for the lease truck was too much and that's why I didn't do it..
Anyone running the Enterprise lease trucks?

My first month was slow and tons of delays and I clocked about 8k.
80k miles a year is 7-9 months of work. At 80k a year you are not working enough to max your profit and after expense you are better off working for a salary somewhere. A working truck clocks in at 100k+ a year. If the wheels aren't turning you ain't earning...
It shouldn't take 5 years to pay off a truck that is bringing in 150-250k gross a year. I don't plan on keeping my truck past 2 years max. It's not a semi with a long life span. Pay it off while its still worth something and no major fixes yet and throw that on a down payment for the next truck, then your payments are less and you pay off the second truck faster, ect...
You think enterprise isn't charging you enough to fix all the wear and tear and not keep a profit? Ofcourse they are otherwise they would be losing money. A company as big as they are, aren't in it to lose money. You overpay for a rental and that's a fact. No one is giving you a truck for just the cost.
Just because the rental is tax deductible doesn't make it any better of a deal when you are paying 2k+ a month for it. That's 50% of a new truck after a year and when you are done with the rental that money is gone, nothing to sell to get something back.p608 Thanks this. -

Anyway, I knew of that Enterprise lease option that I've seen a lot of guys swear by.. The one in Indiana has a giant waiting list.. but I found a different location 2 hours from me that can put me in a truck the next day if I opted to do it.. It's actually a little better than the Indiana Enterprise set up , well at least for me. A few little differences..but it's still the same deal, pay the .22/mile and they cover all repairs, oil changes, fuel filters, tires ect..
I calling to more than 40 offices of enterprise and they dont have this program, wich are the other 2 offices? thank yoy -
With that said there is an Enterprise in Jacksonville, FL that was renting trucks but they wanted you to turn in back it at around 30k miles if I recall instead of 50k. Granted, I suspect any of these rental options will be a dud right now due to the shortage of rental cars and that computer chip shortage. -
Whatever happened to the 6.oh-crap you were running? I hear you on the older trucks though...there's always somethin' that needs attention. Especially if it's an older truck that's been in the wrong hands previously. There's something to be said for starting with a clean sheet of paper and I know guys have run 4th gen Rams up to 500k miles over the road with minimal work needed beyond routine PM stuff and tires. Maybe a new pair of front wheel hubs at 200-250k

Still have both of them.. 1st one is the truck I use as my daily driver when I'm home. The 2nd I still have and it may eventually go back on the road.
