That seems to be the problem, all the big companies are sucking up all the freight and dishing them out if they cant haul them... Then, they buy out the smaller companies to eliminate the little competition - one at a time.

While I have never worked for them, I would put them in that catagory. Now if they paid their drivers for every mile they drove (not practical or HHG), paid their drivers for for all other on duty time, provide their drivers with low cost medical benefits (health, dental and vision), provide paid time off (holiday, jury and sick etc), provide decent home time and provide a decent retirement. Until then, I put them and any other otr company that shorts their drivers in that catagory.

Well going by that standard then all trucking companies are horrible. Let me know when you find one that falls under all the criteria you've listed, and me and every other driver will come running beating down the front door of said company, kicking, clawing and screaming.

I don't think Schneider is great by any means, but for as big as they are I hear far less griping moaning and complaining than I do about Swift, Werner, Prime, England and the other large mega outfits.

I work for an outfit that has about 50 trucks. The only real benefits we have is health insurance (no dental), and it costs a single healthy 30 year old like me 30 bucks a week. I get paid $20/hr if I have to sit and wait for truck or reefer repairs.

I don't get paid detention per say, unless I really get royally screwed over. For example on labor day weekend I was supposed to reload in Dallas, but we ended up dealing with an ignoramus shipper that refused to load my trailer, not because it was dirty, just because it had frozen, clean, palletized Gold 'n plump Turkey and he didn't think it was safe to put his product on a spotless trailer. I got paid $300 for a 52 hour layover, which isn't too shabby.

I drive a truck that can at least do the speed limit in all 50 states (75 MPH). but no APU or Espar heater. .36/mile and $25 for extra stops. They pay all lumper fees, and will pay me the same as the lumper if I CHOOSE to unload it myself. Dispatch is forced, but nothing has ever been shoved down my throat. Hometime is very liberal, as long as I'm willing to slipseat or let a part-timer drive my truck occasionally. and Best of all, NO QUALLCOM!

I recently quit an outfit that had Quallcom, 65MPh governer , stupid log book restrictions, idiotic idle restrictions, and horrible pay. Benefits were ok, but didn't make up for the BS Company policies and rules in my mind.

Bottom line, if the shoe fits, wear it. What is a good fit for me may not fit you. But why drivers of any race, creed, or color tolerate Swift or Werner is beyond me. At least if you work at Mc Donald's or Wal-mart you'll be home every night.

I am simply fed up with the government interfering in my business and my company owner's small business. In the 7 short years I've been driving the industry has gone from bad to worse. I will never again drive a truck with a Quallcomn or electronic log, unless I'm making 6 figures or at least paid by the hour at $15+

I have as recent as yesterday spoke with a driver with Werner. He has been there for 7 years and loves it. His wife drives team with him.
I have also found others who like it as well.

I do not have a favorable thought for the company that laid me off in
September, but alot of people love the company.
It all boils down to your own personal experience.
The bigger the company the more people you are going to find that do not have an issue. But I would wager that most of the people are happy there and just do not take the time to write on these sites!

I have also communicated with many drivers that Love Prime! Go figure!:biggrin_2552:

You hit the nail on the head! Imagine getting paid by the hour. Getting paid for all of your time. What a novel concept.

I went and figured they don't know any better.
    What's next?'

    C.R. England lovers? :biggrin_25521:

Ya know, there ARE folks who love to be punished. :violent1::smt075:banghead:
That'd 'splain their oddity in lovin' companies that others love
to hate. Or is it hate to love?

A study was recently undertaken and it has been established that Big truck truck drivers are incapable of handling any more money than they presently make, which is possibly too much already.

Many experts in finances suggest a lowering of driver pay to save them from certain destruction as a result of all the over-pay they now receive.

Something to think about rethinking what we thought about before we knew what to think we should think. :biggrin_2558:
