Hi Guys. I'm looking at an older Class 8 truck for sale in California. Owner is selling as no longer compliant with state emissions laws.

Is there anything in particular I need to worry about to legally drive it in California en route to New Mexico where it will be registered as a farm truck? Trying to avoid hassles at the port, etc.

    Thx.

I recently bought a class 8 truck out of San Diego and took it the long way up California to Washington state. I went to California with a three day trip permit issued from Washington and proof of insurance. After buying the truck I went to get a trip permit from California and the ladies in that office told me “sorry, you need a trip permit from Washington.” Luckily I already had one. Put the Washington permit in the window and wasn’t bothered at all for my trip through California.

What part of Ca. are you getting it ? You must have insurance and veh must have paid registration to operate on the highway (legally) I honestly think Az. will be more of a problem than Ca. If you can run with the sellers reg it may help.
