I don't think a truck should wait till the bitter end to merge, especially if cars are around. You're looking for an accident that doesn't need to happen, no matter who gets the ticket in the end. Wasted time dealing with it.

Gonna be at least another 72 hours before I get back into my truck. Hoping it gets done by Monday night. My ears are tired of hearing "not sure", "maybe tomorrow" and "don't know".....

    Time for rhinoceros sleep.

Your mindset is based on the expectation that people in the real world know how to zipper merge, which in practice is much more practical than the way the real world actually works. In the real world MOST truckers get over at the first clear indication (cb or signage) of which lane is closed ahead, sometimes as much as 3-5 miles before needed. This occurs because we've learned if we don't get over then we'll get blocked at the end, but if we do get over people are going to do what you did.

If you are losing a lane and see all the truck lined up in the lane that will remain open... Get in line. It saves everyone time.

Some will tell you that what you did is the correct way, others will say you were wrong. I lean to the later... The reason is that as long as traffic is in one lane single file it will flow much faster and safer than idiots trying to force a merge at the last minute.

Just today I was in a 10 mile backup. Most everyone was single file and it was flowing at about 35 mph... Then about 50 vehicles dexided to zip up the empty lane, about 8 mins later flow dropped to a crawl for nearly 30 mins. Then it picked up to about 35 mph again. Once again 50 or so vehicles came zipping up the empty lane and flow again came to a crawl. A few of us were trying to block the open lane but 4 wheelers and even a few trucks would just go off into the dirt to go around...

As stated above by someone else... It goes much faster when everyone just gets into the lane that will remain open. Unless you are going to take an exit BEFORE losing the lane your best bet is to get in line like everyone else.

    Ok.
    Another long day yesterday,
Waiting to load today, maybe just be the one, it’s only 142 miles and ends within 20 miles from home.

its been one of those weeks that nothing has gone right.
Not quite as bad as the below situation would be...
