That goes with out saying. I’ve met a lot of good folks at orientations. Some I still talk with 20 and 30 years later. Of course I’ve never been to an orientation at a large company where everyone is already pissed they had to come to work! Lol! Probably best to bring a good attitude also!!

i knew you lived in CT, you can (if you want) drive down there. then if you get assigned a truck, you have choices.....leave your car there, travel back and forth home. that'll cut into your off time though.

i cannot say if you'll get assigned a trainer right away or in a week or 2.

I would pack maybe a weeks worth of clothes, a sleeping bag, maybe a pillow etc. I'd put it all in one duffel bag that you can fit it all in. You'll probably be in a trainers truck so room will be limited. When you get your own assigned truck you can start adding things to make life on the road more comfortable.

Steel toed boots is overkill unless you're working flatbed, which you've already said you're working reefer.

Vicks Vapor Rub to put under your nose if you end up with an ex-Werner trainer.

Put all your stuff in a flexible duffle bag. Next to impossible to store a hard suitcase in a truck with two people.
Already mentioned; pillow and oversize/extra large sleeping bag.
Roll your clothes; that way you won't need but one duffle bag.

Definitely want work boots of some sort; slip resistant soles and ankle support. Reefer floors can get slick. Also maybe enough warm weather clothes to keep yourself comfortable for five or ten minutes of sweeping out a trailer running at -10. For me some gloves, a hat with ear covers and an extra flannel shirt is plenty, but to each his own.

    Condoms.
    Lots and lots of condoms.
    But, seriously.
First, ask your recruiter what you'll need.
Second, as mentioned before, money to get home and money to be on the truck
I would think no less than $200.

    Good luck and happy trails.
